Please, please remember before you post: our sons are part of a Special Operations community, even while in training, and it is vitally important to form the habit of not divulging any information that could possibly compromise the safety of any of their members. This would especially apply to names, dates, places, procedures, etc. You might like to read the "Discussion Forum" titled "OPSEC" for some guidance. If you are still in doubt, please ask one of our members for their opinion by private message before you post. We are here to help each other, but we must be careful at all times.

Wanted to say "hello" to everyone! Haven't been on here for awhile as we've been busy busy. Jeff is busy with school, working, working out, swimming. He has the 500-yrd swim down to 7 minutes. How could that be possible?? It's pretty here today, 70 degrees! Was just reading about other parts of the US and the ice storms. Hope all is well with everyone! ~Kerry

Hello! I can't believe they don't have openings until 2010! Wow. My son is in DEP and leaves in July for boot camp. He has a SWCC contract. I think he must've been one of the last ones to get a contract.

If your son tests and passes either prior to boot camp or while at boot camp, will they change his contract to SWCC with a start date of 2010?

My personal opinion is if he tested NOW and qualifies (or while in BC), and get a SWCC contract as a result of it, then that would be motivation to stay in physical shape so that when 2010 arrives, he will be in even further superb physical condition.

My son has to continually test and qualify so he is always motivated to work out. That, to me, would be the benefit of your son testing and qualifying now (if they will give him a SWCC 2010 contract) because they are always wanting them to surpass their times. To surpass their times each and every time they test.

Example, when my son first tested this summer, he passed the 500 yard swim in 11:00 minutes. He just tested again last week and he passed in 7 minutes. So, when he actually starts BC, his times will be very good. It gives them motivation to stay in shape. Make sense?

Thank you, Katrina........I did tell him, I had him come read your posting....and he said to tell you thank you for thinking of him! How proud you must be of your son!

Thank you Kari! When Jeff told me what he had to qualify for, I thought to myself "oh dear." Guess I didn't have much faith, huh? The thing that amazed me was the not only the qualifying time for the 500 yd swim but just the fact that he could do it. He quit football which he has done forever and joined the swim team. Here he is in his Senior year and the only one on the team who has never been on a swim team. He's now qualifying for meets and doing all the strokes I never knew he could do. I'm proud of his commitment but then he's always been the kind of kid who once he committed to whatever it was, he gave it 100% and more. He's now working on a 800-yrd swim. That is equivalent to 8 football fields. Anyway, he amazes me. Thanks again for the nice welcome and I'll be watching this thread. Blessings to everyone on the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday!

Thank you Patsy for the welcome! Very proud of Jeff as I'm sure you are of your son. Proud of my oldest, Todd, who is in Norfolk and is in awe of his younger brother's choice (and qualifying). Jeff's an athlete (always has been) and is now training with ex-seals and his recruiter, who was a member of SWCC. He has to be very diligent and continue to prepare himself for an even more superior athletic finesse and he understands this. Whew. Lots of work ahead but I'm excited for him and very proud. And, yes, these things are out of our hands....I understand what you're saying and have to think the same thing.........my sons have the same attitude. Guess you have to, right? I'm so pleased to hear from you, thank you! Blessings ~Kerry

Just wanted to say hello to everyone! My son, Jeff is 17 and a senior in high school. He is in the Delayed Entry Program and has a SWCC contract so I'm going to be watching this thread closely. Best of luck to everyone!
