Hey Vicki! Congratulations to your son, graduating with honors! How awesome. We too are on opposite coasts from our son... it will be a long time till we see him, as he will be deploying very soon. He actually is very anxious to go... I think he wants to put all this training to use:)
To all those parents of 72-2... one more day, my friends:)) And SWCC'Em you are right, no news IS good news! I remember waiting for that phone call... he was SOOOO happy and SOOOO exhausted, lol!
Have a great night everyone.
Thank you so much pamom, Travis66 and BJA57! I appreciate everyone's input on "so how long is CQT?" ;) Mainly I'm just trying to make sure that we can afford going out there when the time comes because I definitely want to go to graduation! :)
I've had butterflies in my stomach all week... my "W" is on day 3 and my mantra this week has been "no news is good news." I am thinking positive-- no other options are entering my head. I'm anxious to hear from him tomorrow at some point. I will be happy to cross this particular item off my 'worry list' but I know that something else will surely take it's place. ;)
It is really wonderful to hear how much your "W's" really enjoy what they do-- there's a lot to be said for loving your 'job' but I can only imagine what it's like for you as a mother/parent too (lots of worrying!).
It's reassuring to me to know how much training these guys really get before being deployed (they are as prepared as they are going to ever be before they go); it sounds like that never really stops. :)
You all were nice enough to answer one question about CQT and now I have 2 more as a result (I apologize but do appreciate each of you for responding). :)
Have a great day and I appreciate and thank you for your help! :))
They train "forever"! and when they are not training they are training others to do what they do- train!! ;) Our W is in South America conducting and supervising training of alies' police/military. It is his 3rd trip there and he really likes it. He will be deployed to the other side of the world in Sept. Although it is his third rotation, it doesn't get easier for me. Confidence grows with each mission, as I realize that all that training brings them home. But to have them in constant "stress" wears on my heart. This will also be his second time "over there" during the holidays, and birthday. (sigh)
But through all that- I wouldn't trade what this (SWCC) has done for our son for anything! He absolutely LOVES his job! He would rather be on the water with his team than anywhere else! He is a good leader and mentor. He is strong in mind, body, spirit. And he is happy! What more can a mother ask for??
So, all of you starting this journey-- hang on tight! Know that your sons are where they are supposed to be! They are learning and growing in ways never imagined!
We are all so thankful for your sons who have chosen to be the best of the best!
I am so thankful for all of you who support them, and raised admirable young men!

Hi there. I believe if I remember correctly CQT was 20 weeks, and then they added some weeks on. I think my son's class was the first one where there were additional weeks. I thought it was 26 weeks but I really could be wrong about that. I'm not much help I am!! lol! But if your son is saying 22 weeks... they should know, so I would plan around that. I know with us though, we didn't make any plans right away, such as flight arrangements or hotels, because things could change so rapidly. not knowing if he would have gotten hurt or not passed something, which would have meant a rollback into the next class. So we waited until we were fairly certain that he was going to make it!! :))
There is not another "phase" after CQT, most ( but not all ) will go to their language school at that point. Some will go directly to SOCM school if they were chosen for that.
There is so much training.. it seems as though they are always training in some way or another.
Good Luck to your son and all the W's in 72-2 that are going through The Tour this week.... it is a loonnng week for them and for us parents as well!!
Travis, congratulations to your son on his wings! I'm sure he had fun in that training!! My son is in the final stages of his 1st deployment workup. He will be deploying soon. :((
Have a great day everyone!!
I'm so glad that the 'vet' Mom's are here and able to give us 'newbies' a head's up with things: simply 'thank you!'.
Stacy and rhonda0366: nice to meet other mom's of guys in class 72-2! :) Sounds like the 'tour' is starting Monday-- I'll be a hot mess by the time all is said and done (but at least I may be able to take a deep breath). It's going to be very long week at my house. I'll be heading to CA soon as well-- like you said Stacy, I hope he can at least one eye open for a little bit. :)
I have a couple of questions that hopefully ya'll can help me with:
How long is CQT? My son says 22 weeks, I've found other 'sources' say that it's 26 weeks and yet another place/person that says it's 24 weeks...
Is there another 'phase' immediately after CQT (like BCT, then CQT, then...)? I'm hearing/seeing different things and trying to figure it out so that I can know how much $$ to put aside/save for a tentative graduation date.
How long is language school and is the language dictated by which 'team' your "W" is attached?
Travis66: Congratulations to your son on his wings!!!
Got to get for now, hope ya'll are having a great day today!
Hi Travis good to see you! Congratulations on your son's new Wings! You are so right, these guys certainly do get thoroughly trained before getting deployed & that makes us as their parents feel better! Our son is still in training also & is looking forward to getting back to SD to his team!
Good Luck to 72-2 going through The Tour!!
Have a great weekend everyone!!
Hey Travis!! How've you been? How is your son doing? has he been deployed yet? hope all is well! Good to hear from you.
Best of luck to all those heading for The Tour next week!!
My son is also in class 72-2. Told me that BCT is almost over. They have their "Tour" next week. Tells me he is ready for it and ready to move on to CQT. He will be back with the guys he was originally with again. He is having fun and will remember these days always. Especially when they swim with the seals and dolphins. How cool that would be. Long hours for these guys but well worth it!
My son is 72-2 too! Going down to see him real soon! Hopefully he'll be able to keep at least one eye open! :)
Hi SWCC'Em & Welcome! I wish your son the best of luck as he moves through BCT & then onto CQT! We are always here for you if you need us! BJA & pamom gave you awesome words of SWCC MOM wisdom...Hang in there!!
rhonda0366, Best of Luck to your son also moving forward with his training!
Hope everyone here is having a wonderful SUMMER!!!
