Hang in there Trish! Seems like it was just yesterday I was feeling the same way and now I'm preparing to head off to Great Lakes for PIR! It seems like a long time and it may be because of the holidays but the time has flown by! You are going to be so very proud of your Sailor! And you have all of us here to lean on to get you through!

Mark your calendar for February 28th Nicole - that's the date of "Get Rescued in Gulfport"! It's a pretty neat day, they have bands playing and all kinds of animal rescue groups and vendors that sell just about everything imaginable for pets, they have art auctions and it's just kind of nice. I'm a member of DARE (Dachshund Adoption Rescue and Education) I have 6 of my own and always a few fosters, my son tells his buddies that I have a mini petting zoo at home! LOL! My favorite part of Get Rescued is when former fosters come by to visit! It's great to see them thriving with their new families!

What a wonderful surprise for your family Nicole! Have a great time with your son home! Gulfport is a great little town, my dachshund rescue does an event there every year called "Get Rescued in Gulfport" that is held downtown with lots of other animal rescue groups, it's one of our favorite events of the year and we always get some great adoptions out of it! :0)

Anderson Park also has a dog park! Hey, I'm a dog person - LOL! The last 2 weeks of March are Chasco up here in NPR, I'm in the Krewe of Chasco so those weekends aren't so great for me but y'all plan around what is best for the majority, if I can make it I can make it, if not I'll be sure to make it the next time! 8 more days till PIR! :0)

Guess we all have our minds on the same thing! I'm jealous, gotta wait until the 24th to see my son! Have wonderful holidays and enjoy your loved ones!

Mine too! REAL EARLY! I think it's like 6:00 or 6:30 - wonder if they're on the same flight? He didn't have to be back at base until the 4th at 8:00 PM but with the weather in Chicago I thought it better to get a head start!

Hi Maritza, I'm in New Port Richey! Yes, my son gets to come home for Christmas :0) We're flying home together - we get to Tampa on 11:30 PM Christmas Eve! When does your son head back to Great Lakes? Mine is leaving on January 3rd, early morning, flying into O'Hare as well.

Maritza - my son starts corpsman school in January at Great Lakes! Where do you live? We're in New Port Richey, I'm sure my son would love a chance to talk with your son about the training! He can't wait to get started. Wish I had known about the airport in Wisconsin being closer, we're flying through O'Hare and I have no clue how to drive in the snow and ice! Thinking maybe I might see if I can take the train to Great Lakes.

Was wondering, did anyone get a call for Thanksgiving? I know one of the moms with a brand new recruit was looking forward to the call from her daughter? I hope she's doing well! I didn't get a call but did get a letter that said they had a wonderful meal with turkey and prime rib and lots of wonderful deserts!
