I'll leave the place and time up to the rest of you, I travel all the time for work so a trip for something fun is something I look forward to! :0) Must say, Cheesecake Factory sounds wonderful to me! LOL

Hi Tracy, my son Devin left for Great Lakes on Monday and I actually got a 2nd call from him yesterday! He LOVES it! I guess his unit or whatever they are called are doing great and he was originally scheduled for PIR in January and were told that they were going to do the 8 weeks in 6 weeks and that PIR is now going to be on Christmas Eve! Kind of throws a wrench into all of my plans but I will not miss PIR for anything! Looks like I'll be spending Christmas in Great Lakes! Not sure if they're going to get a leave, if he does and can travel I'm going to definitely try to get us a flight home for Christmas. He said I would be getting a package with all the details this week. We were originally told there is no leave between basic and A school but maybe as it's the holidays he'll get one, all fingers crossed!
My heart was so happy to hear from him and the excitement in his voice, he really loves it. Says it's awesome! Had to laugh, they were expecting maybe some snow today and he was very excited as he's never seen snow! I figure by the time this winter is over he'll have seen plenty as his A school is at Great Lakes as well! LOL

Barbara - is your son in Jacksonville? I go up there at least 3 times a month for work, it's a long drive but not too bad!

Hi All! Got my phone call on Monday night, Devin made it to Great Lakes safe and sound! He sounded tired and upbeat at the same time, made me feel a little better knowing he's ok! Today I called his recruiter's office and got his mailing address for right now and put a letter in the mail on my way home tonight. Aside from the dogs it's so quiet at home right now! Dev said my next phone call will be in 3 weeks, I'm thinking maybe Thanksgiving. Anyway, I made it through the 3 day blister free and on Saturday Devin was at the finish line waiting for me! We had dinner together and then on Sunday I got done early enough that we got to spend about an hour together before he had to report in. For a change I'm hoping the time flies by for the holidays! :0)

Well, my son leaves for boot camp this Sunday, he's going to come down to see me in St Pete on Sat. night to say good-bye! (I'm walking in the 3-day walk this weekend) We had dinner together last night but the mom in me needs to give him one more hug before he heads out!

Alyse - are you going to PIR? Devin told me that I could fly into Chicago or Milwaukee as the Great Lakes base is right in between looking for input from those who've been!

Will be off line for the rest of the weekend - have a great weekend everyone, enjoy this wonderful weather!

I will have to remember that, SWCC. My nephew is wanting to be a seal, his mom's not too thrilled with that idea - she watched the video! My son is going for corps man and is actually hoping to get attached to a Marine unit for his first assignment, needless to say this mom is not thrilled with that idea either. His recruiter tried to talk him into nuclear but the kid has medical on the mind! I hope he's made the right choice. This has been a tough week, everything we do together I think to myself "we won't be doing this again any time soon". Get teared up just thinking it! I am very proud of him though, you're so right, our kids are awesome to have joined in this day and age!

Thanks Nicole! I can tell you that I will be attending my son's PIR! Hoping Chicago has a mild winter, I'm a wimp when it comes to cold weather. Hopefully we'll get a good education in the lingo here on this page. Keeping all your sons/daughters in my prayers...

Ok - I'm going to need a list of what all the initials stand for! What is swcc? PIR? MS? It took me forever to figure out the regular e-mail shortcuts now it seems I have new Navy ones to learn! 6 more days and my son leaves for basic so I better learn quickly!

That would be great to get together - I travel quite a bit for my job but I'm home on weekends. I'll let y'all decide the where and when! :0) About a month ago we had a DEPs lunchion with our recruiters and they were really helpful answering our questions, I just keep coming up with more as the time gets closer!

Hi all - my youngest Devin, leaves for basic at Great Lakes next weekend, I'm excited for him and sad at the same time to be having an empty nest. I think the holidays will be the hardest as it will be the first year he won't be home for them! This probably sounds stupid but can we send them cookies or anything for the holidays if they are in basic training?
