Hello All,
Just wondering if anyone is from Arlington/Mansfield area. My son went to Great Lakes on 7/12, just got his letter today with all the graduation info. He is scheduled to graduate on 9/9. He is on ship 9 Div 291.
Just wonder if anyone else has a son/daughter who left 7/12.

I have a friend who's son is in 09/292... he is from Washington State. Friend her and tell her how you got to her, click on her profile name here: Patricia - Navy mom x2 :)
Also, I have a discussion group for the DFW area Moms (see the above discussions - I will bring it back to the top if possible), and I will add your name to my list. When the weather cools down I want to try and plan a big get together if possible. Welcome to the roller coaster ride!
I'm in Midlothian! My son graduated boot camp in March and A school last month. He will be home next week for a visit then off to Camp Lejeune until October. What is your sons rate? My son is Hospital Corpsman. Are you going to his graduation?
Hello from South Arlington. Our son graduated from bootcamp on June 18th. The ceremony was awsome. Be sure to get to your son's early to get a good seat in your sailors section. We got to the base at 7:45am for the 9:00am am ceremony and could only find seats up in the balcony. After the gradutation, the sailors have to report back to their ship and when all were accounted for, we could take our sailor off base until 8:00pm. We had just enough time for a whirlwind tour of downtown Chicago. During our walk down Michigan Avenue, my son was stopped 3 times by people who congratulated him and thanked him for serving our country. We stopped in front of the Tribune and the Cubs game was being broadcast live. The announcer saw our son in his uniform and called out an acknowledgment to him and all of the sailors during the live broadcast! The next morning, our son was on a 6:00 am flight to Groton, CT. and he started A school last week and he will serve on a submarine after graduation. He is in the Fire Control (Electronics/weapon systems). Does anyone else from DFW have a sailor in New London, CT?
Since our son was already assigned to submarines prior to going to bootcamp, we knew that he would be flying to CT shortly after the graduation, however we did not realize that it would be less than 24 hours after the ceremony! It is nice that you have friends and family in the Chicago area so you can have a backup plan in case you find yourselves in the same situation. My husband and I purchased our airline tickets for a Sunday afternoon just in case we would be able to see him on Saturday which didn't happen, so we returned our rental car and took the train to downtown Chicago and stayed near the Magnificant Mile (it was my birthday weekend too!) I hope you are able to have more time with your son than we did, however we knew it was a 50/50 chance so we pulled out "Plan B" and still had a wonderful memorable time.
BTW: you can order a DVD of your sailors graduation Mine just arrived this afternoon so we are going to have brunch at my house this Friday so his grandparents can watch the ceremony.
Also, did you know that each division actually design their own T-shirt which you can order? I did not know this in advance so by the time we found out all of the shirts for our sons division were already sold out so we had to order them online.
Can you tell me where I can go to find my son's division shirt so I can order one before his PIR? Thanks
