For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Boots
Went and bought him some boots tonight. He just left to "try" to go running in them! QWe'll see how that goes. Glad I got the heads up about getting him used to them now because he is a strictly tennis shoe guy!

I just went to Walmart and got him a pair of lace up work boots. I think they were around $39...he said his recruiter (or someone at the recruiting office)told him they won't be doing much in running for the first week or so but I would rahter have him kind of prepared. The bc videos I have watched shows them in tennis shoes though...My motto has alway been "I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it!"

Everything you send will be sent back but it might help to have them run in boots beforehand. My son's "kid in a box" came back with everything he left with EXCEPT his sneakers but he wears a size 15 shoe and he said they didn't have the right size for him!! After they got them he had to throw out his own shoes!

My son requested Dr Shols Massaging Gel inserts for his boots. I sent him 3 pr, one for his boots, dress shoes, and extra one. Poor thing left for bc on Dec 6 and did not get is inserts for like 4 weeks in. The mail took 7-10 days to get to him. I did notice every division varied a bit. I would recommend sending him a pr or two as soon as he sends you his address.
They did run in tennis shoes, but they do a LOT OF STANDING in their boots, so its best if he gets used to wearing them anyway. My son only wore Combat style boots all through High School and he said it still took some getting used to. I wish your son the best in BC.

I thought they couldn't get any kind of pkgs during bc?

There are some items they can receive. ALL PKGs are opened infront of an RDC. IT is not allowed the RDCs destroys it. However my son did say that PRIOR to opening the PKG he was given teh option to just mail the unopened pkgs back home if they thought it contained something they were not allowed to have. HOWEVER NOT ALL RDCs may allow this. Some did have comic books destroyed infront of them. I sent his shoe inserts in the larger brown envelopes, I sent one pr per envelope. I also used those envelopes to send Stamps, envelopes and labels for him to use as his return address. Its the same as his mailing address but he had to add his last 4 digits of his SS on the first line. It saved him time and he appreciated it. I also placed one folded and prestamped and preaddressed to me so he could mail me some letters he received since space is limited. I knew he was receiving lots of mail from other family members and friends. HE really liked that.

Don't buy boots. Have him run and exercise in everything he has, trainers, boots, flip flops, running shoes, etc... He needs to have his feet tough!
One gal has torn ligaments in our PIR group because she had not been running prior to BC. We don't know if she is going home or if she will recover quickly enough to continue. Still praying. Many are getting the flu as well.
