I have been hoping to find some Navy Mom's from the Austin area . My son leaves to BC on June 17th . I'm starting to get nervous and sad at the same time . I'm going to miss him so much.

Hi Michelle, I am from Austin and my son is in the Navy for almost 3 yrs. Was a great experience for him so far and he is doing very well. I remember being quite nervous but just encourage and support him, he will be okay. Once he is in BC and knows all the details you will find mom's on this site with sailors in the same ship/division and that is a great source of information during that time.I have another good friend here in the neighborhood with a son in the Navy as well and if you want to get in touch with us just send me a private message, we would be happy to share our experience.
Michelle, I'm "just outside of weird"....Bastrop area...You hang in there, and make sure you join the groups "leaving for boot camp", and then join your PIR date group. This last group will be "Pass in Review", meaning the day your son graduates BC. You will learn so much, and will be surrounded by parents who are going through the same things you are! Good luck...stay Navy Mom strong!
Great thank you for all the support Wanda, Tereza,SplashMom . I may take you up on some quiestions later . Glad to know there is some Austin area Mom's on the site. I have been keeping real busy and planing his going away party for this coming Saturday .
I could be better feeling a little sad. I'm still waiting on that I'm here call . It sounded like he was going to get on the bus soon from the airport about 2 hrs ago , I hope he calls soon . Thank you for your support
I heard from my son last night about midnight finally. He sounded very tired
Hi!! Im in Austin (Cedar Park). My sons PIR is on 6/27. The bootcamp ride is almost over. We are traveling to Chicago next week. Driving straight thru so we can be there for graduation.
Feel free to message me any time. I will be happy to offer support and hugs. The best advice I can give you is write every day. It helps them feel closer to home and the letters make their day. My son gets at least 1 letter every day and he says it helps him sleep better at night knowing whats going on back home.
There are also great Facebook groups for your SR's PIR date and Navy Moms page. Lots of great advice and information. It keeps you sain waiting for the next letter or call. =]
Hi DakotasMom... I am from Boerne, The Hill Country area, not far from you Austin folks. I noticed you have already gone through PIR at this point and you said you drove?? Tell me about the drive, how long, etc... I am thinking about driving just so I'll have my car while there. PIR date is 8/22. Still kinda new to all this. ;/
