While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Best way to start/complete a degree while serving
I was recently asked by a Mom how should her son go about starting and possible completing a degree while serving? She told me her son was looking at online programs that advertise heavily to sailors. I told her to do the following:
1. Call her local Community College. What many are unaware of is that in most states community colleges now function more like junior colleges. They have specific programs set up to allow students to take all of their pre University courses and transfer directly to the State University system upon completion of the Associates Degree. These programs have pre arranged curriculum that allow ALL credits taken to transfer directly to a similar program at the State University. The new element is that many of these programs offer fully online courses and programs. In my home state of Massachusetts you can start a degree program in business ,engineering, computer science as well as others at the community college and then bring all 60 credits with you to the UMass system through completely online programs.
2. If your student has identified needs such as a learning disability the community colleges are set up to provide tutoring and other assistance, even to online students. Tutoring and other extra help is available to all students regardless of need, but students with identified need can get specialized help. Ask about the availabity of support services.
3. Many state's now offer a reduction on tuition for students who complete the community college program prior to moving into the University. In MA you get free tuition if you complete the Associate's degree with a certain GPA. Ask about the tuition benefits since active duty do not want to use the GI Bill benefits.
4. Community colleges are much much much cheaper and often mroe flexible than the for profit online providers. Many have veteran's affairs offices that can help identify credits that can be used from training as well as assist with registration and other military specific issues. Ask if there is a military specialist your student can talk with.
5. The beauty of these Associate degree programs is if after completion your student decides they don't want to go on they have a completed degree program so nothing lost.
