Good Evening, I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer!! The last 10 days were such a beautiful blessing for my family. My son Rob was home on leave!!! It was wonderful to be with him and learn of the vast experiences he has had since graduating boot camp March 5, 2010 with one trip to Iraq and two to Afghanistan. He is now stationed in Jacksonville, FL and will be a part of the VPN01 Patrol Squadron. I just wanted to let you all know that I think of you often and all of your Sailors!!! It is a challenging road we are all on but the times you get to spend with your Sailors will be just awesome. If you are ever at the Albany, NY airport there is a Military Room there with some of the nicest people that really welcome the Military families..Keep the faith and God Bless!

To Rob`s Mom,
I know that hollow feeling in your heart" well, as I`m sure the other mothers/grandmothers do. That`s a good way to describe it. 4 weeks is a long time not to hear from your son, and I`m sure you are hoping for a phone call or email soon. I hear every few days from my grandson, so far. The unbearable heat and humidity has got to be difficult for them to endure. You said this is his 2nd tour. It probably isn`t any easier for you or him the 2nd time around. I love the bear idea!

Welcome back to NY Shannon! I have family in FL, and love to visit there in the cold NY winter. I was just there a week-2weeks ago, and actually it was worse here than there when I got home right after July 4th. It is good you will be near your family. My grandson is in the Riverines, and is in Iraq. It is a long road watching them enlist, go to boot camp, train, and then leave for a war zone. Navy for Moms has been a great support for me, and I know it will be for you too. We understand, and will offer sympathy when you miss your son etc. I am from the Ticonderoga area, near Lake George.

kk - Thank you for sharing the poem!! It brought tears to my eyes. My son is back in Afghanistan on his second tour and I haven't heard from him in about 4 weeks. The hollow feeling in my heart is better some days than others. I purchased a fatigue dressed bear from the USO that represents all the services that are serving in Afghanistan and carry him with me wherever I go...just my little pick me up!! I agree with the comment made by one the Navy Moms...us Upstate NY moms raise some tough boys!! Thinking of you all and I hope you all have a great week!!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome.Group HUG!!! I just added pics of me & my sailor/son to my page. I called his recruiter again today and asked questions like does he always have to wear "military issued" clothing including socks, unders, t-shirts, etc..he said "no keep them after BC send them on". Oh, he also said that he/they might not start their BC training right off the bat ...there could be a lag time as long as a week before they really kick it into high gear waiting for the whole class in there DIV.. to arrive ...then they "class up all together...so you really cant count 8 weeks exactly from the date they get there for the PIR.weekend! They have to hurry up and wait for each SWCC guy to arrive ...each EOD guy each Resc, swimmer etc. before they start..So I am packing all of his clothes for my big move back up to NY! No more 82 degrees at midnight and a steady 94 degrees everyday for 7 months straight. Thank you all for the good luck and well wishes! ..Greatly Appreciated, Thank God for this site and all of you!!! Yes recruiter said no news is good news...I just miss communication with him so much, as I know all you do too!

Thank KK!
I had his address 2 days after he left...just call his recruiter, they have it all in the computer as soon as they are assigned. I did not receive any form letter either nor did the recruiter even mention that.. I am soo glad I joined. TY!

Hi Everyone,
I am a Rochester,NY native..I have been living in West Palm Beach(Boca Raton for the last 10 years and moving back to Rochester in 3 weeks. My Son left On July 6th for GL. I was divorced when he was a baby so It has always just been the two of us and I am beyond sad and blue, I miss him so much. I need to be back home near dear friends and family. He is Ship 4 Div. 818..anybody else? He has a SWCC contract so time will tell I pray to God he makes it, but that is a ways off. Soon I will be back in NYS and out of this non stop horrendous heat & humidity...Thank you.....We are all in this together!

Anyone have a loved one in the Navy Riverines in the Glens Falls, Plattsburgh, Albany etc area?
Comment by Mermaid on May 22, 2010 at 5:14am
kk I hope you feel better soon. I hope you can rest so you`ll get better sooner. That`s a hard thing for a woman to do with all that we "have on our plate".
