Kari, After typing that last comment I kind of figured out the aircrew acronym... I'm learning :-) I like that they are tightening up the ship and weeding out the jokers, I think that RS should be very serious, they have a very serious job. My daughter is 5'9" and 160 lbs. and very athletic. In fact when we go to the pool every morning to train the swim coach from the public high school is there and says she is definitely a natural for swimming... swimmers body, etc. and even tries to talk her out of her volleyball and softball sports to get her to come swim for him. She is also very serious about this, doesn't drink (and I hope when she is on her own still makes the same decision LOL) , and is a very driven person.

One thing I find strange though is that the navy knows how many opening there are going to be in AW and RS school, so why don't they push people's basic dates back to accomodate the school's schedule? I guess they would rather pay them their monthly salary to sit around and do who know's what for 3 or 4 months huh?

Chris, won't Greg get his wings later? Or is this something they are doing away with for the AW. How much of a longer road is it until wing getting? Just wondering. Also, tell your son I think he looks like one of the nicest guys LOL :-) He has a very kind look to him and I'm enjoying reading about his road to the fleet. I'm glad to have the information to pass on to Kelsey, although she gets tired of me telling her how tough and hard this is going to be and how she is going to feel like she wants to die and is going to want to give up, etc. I just want her to be fully prepared when she goes LOL. Thanks for all the info, it's very helpful. I think my prayer life is going to increase by leaps and bounds when she leaves huh? LOL :-)

Kari... what is AC? I thought that was a rating for Air Traffic control? My daughter's recruiter told her last week that at their last recruiter's meeting they told them they are really pushing the AW/ rescue swimmer rating because they didn't have as many as they need. Maybe this is late news coming down the pipe, who knows. Kind of a bummer about not getting a second chance, I'm sure that is what got many people through. My daughter has a year until she goes to basic, so maybe it will clear out by then. But she is working hard as this is what she really wants to do.

Stacy, my son was on hold for 4 months, but for minor medical reasons. I've not heard of being on hold for security clearance as your son still has much more training to do. Not sure why they couldn't put him through the rest of the training while attaining the proper clearance at the same time. Sorry, I wish I could be more help.

Just wanted to say Hello to everyone......my youngest just switched from SWCC contract to Rescue Swimmer -- or is it SAR? Admittedly, I'm a bit confused and need to read up on all this. He is a Depper and graduates high school this Saturday. Not sure yet when he's leaving. His SWCC contract had him leaving July 29th but the thought is he will be leaving sometime this month. I'll be following this group closely to see if I can figure out what is what. Best wishes to all!

Nikky, I love the video! Just joined this group. Have one Sailor son already in Norfolk on the Big E. Youngest son graduates high school next month. He has a SWCC contract but is testing this week for Rescue Swimmer. SWCC is full and his Navy mentor says that rescue swimmers are needed. If he passes when he tests, his leave date is changed from end of July to June :o(. I'm pretty sure he will be pass since he's been training since last Summer for SWCC and qualifies for that each month...... I'm looking around trying to find out what I can about rescue swimmer so I enjoyed this video! Blessings to all!

Chris, my son Shawn was the BUD(Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) in your sons Gregs SAR training group. Shawn went through Seals training where he was performance dropped 2 days before HellWeek, he was devastated. Then has was reclassed to SAR. It took a long time for him to get going after BUD's, he was put on Med Hold for 4 months, he was getting very dissappointed when finally he started training in Pensacola. He is back in San Diego where he started. In July he will have been in 2 years already, and still in training. He loves what he is doing now, he actually can't wait for SERE to start...imagine that.

Lynda and BB, my son also went through SEALs and he made it til about 2 days before HELL week started. He never quit though. We have alot more in common than I thought. He just left Pensacola and is now in San Diego again awaiting FRAC and SERE training to begin. The being on HOLD thing can drive the boys crazy though. So yeah alot to learn about, but it is great having this site to commiserate(sp?) with others that are going through the same thing with their family member. So BB, welcome once again.

BB, my son is a Rescue Swimmer and considered an Air Crewman. Where is he at in his training? What would you like to know about it? There are many of us out there with loved ones in the same category. We will be glad to help you through it. My son just left Pensacola and is now in San Diego for the remainder of his training.

Hi everyone, my son just left P'cola...en route to SD, I believe Chris A. that my son and yours are on the same road trip, same car. Haven't heard from him today but know that yesterday they were in TX. Any news on your end? I did drive down and see him last weekend before he left, had a great time was very good to see him.
