Hey everyone, just got word that Shawn may graduate FRAC on Oct. 2nd. The really great news is he passed his written, written open book and oral exams. He only needs 3 more flights and he is NATOPS certified, should be by the 30th, which they tell him means he will graduate WITH wings !!! I'm so excited...I can't wait. That is the news today....hopefully it doesn't change.

Oh and Welcome Reneedawn! This is a great group with tons of info for you. We Navy Moms are a proud bunch!!

He is Sierra...and yes been through sere. I'm hoping to see him really soon! We will go to his graduation...even without the wing pinning. ; ( Sad for me...I was really looking forward to that too.

Linda proud Mom- Shawn still does not know for sure what date he will graduate FRAC....soon though. His class should be the first class to graduate without the wing pinning portion of the graduation. He's bummed about that part. He siad it will be about 6 months or so before he will get his wings and it will be at his permanent duty station, wherever that may be. He should get his orders soon to tell him where he's going next. I just hope he will get to come home for a little while first.

Congrats Chris! I can understand how proud you must be, it's just a shame that you can't be there, I read how much it seemed you were looking forward to it. Greg has been on a long, hard road and now all that hard work is paying off. That is incredible!
Christi... you'll be there soon! You 2 have great reason to be super proud of your sons. Tell them to keep up the good work!

Chris, I know bummer. Talked to Shawn two nights ago, says they won't make it by months end. Something about not enough flights and the end of the fiscal year...yadayada. Anyways, I'm so sorry you won't be able to make Greg's graduation. ; ( Looks like Shawn will graduate around Oct. 9th he thinks...still all guesses and not a concrete date. Gotta love the military....they sure keep us on our toes guessing!

Actually, they don't have to rerate to become a rescue swimmer. Each ship is supposed to have 2 certified rescue swimmers on board. So, some sailors keep their rating and jobs and sign up to go to rescue swimmer school to be one of the 2 on board their ship. I think when they go that route they don't have to do SERE or anything like that. They just do the swim school and then back to their ships. But if they rerate to AW then of course, they have to go down the whole path.

So Beachmomma... your son is already in the Navy and is going to be a rescue swimmer on top of the rate he already has? What rate is he? Or is he going to try to rerate to AW?

Beachmomma, check out the discussion above titled "The Road". It's loaded with information from our resident guru Kari. Believe me, she has most of the answers to most of your questions. I saw your post on our other group "Moms of Aviation Rescue Swimmers", thought I would pass along that useful info.

Hi Richell, true true! Asked my son if he knows your son and he said "oh yes, he's an incredible swimmer!"

my boy texted his sisters yesterday and taunted them with "Hey, what's ya doing? Oh yeah, you're in school, bummer. I'm relaxing by the ocean, it's about 80 and sunny, oh....yeah I just finished my steak and crab legs"

Sort of rubbing it in a bit. Well, I hope they enjoy themseves a bit because I'm sure not everyday will be so wonderful - take it when you can get it.
