Hi!

I don't have a child on the ship but I do have a husband and I am excited to be able to communicate with you. I just wanted to touch bases with members to let you know, I am a resource available to you. My name is Janine Martinez and I am Ombudsman for the USNS Mercy. My cell number is 619-889-7686 and my email address is Ombudsman@mercy.navy.mil
I hope that I already have you on my updates list, but if I do not, please e-mail me at my gmail account and I will be happy to add you.

I also wanted to let you know about a project that is in the works. If you would like to send me a picture, photo, poem or letter, we will be working on a banner for the crew. You can mail them to me at 6346 Primrose Drive, La Mesa CA. 91942 .
Please do not send them to me in email form, only already prepared copies or originals. Please do not expect to have these items returned unless your loved one takes it from the ship when the deployment is completed. I would like to have items no later than July 1. If you live in San Diego, have a loved one onboard the Mercy and would like to help put this project together, let me know.

Thank You and I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Warm Regards,

Janine

We have a AT&T international phone plan with a discount for fireman which is the same for military. (Unfortunately AT&T would only give me one discount) I was told that for each text .50 then each min is $3.50. In addition to my family plan. But since he has not used neither of those forms of communication I cannot verify. If and when he does I will let you all know! But then again they said there has to be a signal in the area he is in. So maybe no signal? I did send him a $50.00 international calling card too so maybe no phones are in the area he is in too!

If you don't have a intl data pkg on the phone then it is two cents per kb for internet across the board.. that really adds up. $.50 per txt accross the board and it all depends on what country your in to the standard rate of intl voice pr min rate and the disc if there is any. Check your service provider website. Best way to find out

Hey some intl info. If you have ATT and an acct with the navy disc on it, there is a $64.99 unlimited intl data pkg for the blackberry and iPhone. Thats one pkg for unlimited domestic and international together. But only for Bussiness and accts that have a "FAN" name on it. Thats what they call it when you add an employee disc to your acct.i.e. Military Disc. But, now if there is no signal, then just like in the US, the phone won't work. But it say Vietnam, Australia, etc in the countries themselves, UNLIMITED internet.

Thank you all for the updates, I have not spoken to my son since Guam, so any news is greatly appreciated. Of course I have texted, email, twitted and tried to call to no avail. He has put a comment on Facebook on Monday so I know he is there.
