Just thought that I'd say Hi to all- we were blessed with a 2 week visit home from my son at the beginning of March- I hadn't seen him in over 15 months.  I don't plan on going that long again!  It was wonderful to see my 21 yr old- and I am pleased and proud to report that I am loving the man that he has become.  Thank you, Navy! God bless you all!

Our son reports at the end of March.  We are so excited for his next chapter in the Navy.  We're from AZ and are heading out to Groton to see him graduate in 2 weeks.  I look forward to connecting with others in this group!

I can't wait to go to Hawaii!! always been a dream of mine, never imagined my little boy would be in the Navy and stationed there...what an opportunity for us both :o). he has learned to surf and is looking forward to hiking and taking pictures of the island.

Thank you for the warm welcome ladies!! My son has been really great about calling and keeping in touch every chance he gets...so glad he does...know from speaking to other moms some of their sons don't call as often so I feel very lucky.  Thank you so much for the address for the ombudsmen's address...I will be sure to write them as soon as possible and introduce myself and let them know I want to be as involved as I can be all the way from TN, lol...just want to make sure if I can send a package to my sailor for when they are out that I send what is needed and get it there in a timely manner...am willing to do whatever I can to help out as I don't work and have plenty of time on my hands  most of the time.  Cameron is my youngest and my only son...last one out of the nest for more than a year now, been quite an adjustment.  His father passed away 4 years ago and I want to make sure I always do everything I can to make him feel like he is the most important person in the world to me...try to make both of my kids and my husband feel that way...takes work but the rewards far outweigh the effort it takes ya know....thanks for welcoming me again I look forward to speaking with you ladies!! Oh yeah...I help admin a group on facebook called Loved ones of Hawaii Submarine Sailors if any of you want to join come join us!! One other mom on there with a son on the Columbia so far...a great support system I think! Hope to see you there!

Hi Mom of Cameron, my son spent 4 years on the Columbia, he is now doing his shore duty. I never did receive a welcome packet either. I did however get a package before his first deployment. And that was because he sent it to me.

I can however give you the Ombudsmen's email if you have not gotten it. Just write and introduce yourself, they were always very helpful and friendly.

frgcolumbia@yahoo.com This is the last one I had from 2012. Hope it helps.

Welcome to MomofCameron! I did not get a welcome packet to the boat, and feel fairly new to all this myself. My husband & I did visit our son last fall, and were treated to a tour of a sister sub! It was so interesting to see that!  They work so hard, but I was encouraged by how happy and excited about what my son was doing when I spoke with him these last several times. Too bad that I am in Michigan- too far for coffee together. But this is a great support!

Hello there!! New member so glad I found this page...have been on facebook looking for a group to join for the USS Columbia but there aren't any that I can find. My son is stationed on the Columbia, has only been in Hawaii since December and on his boat since mid January.  He had told me while he was home on leave that I would receive a welcome packet once he got to his boat but I found out from some posts on facebook that it is only the spouse that gets this package...is that correct?  My son isn't married, doesn't have a girlfriend either and he said he gave them all my information and listed me as his contact or whatever you call it, lol....my questions is how do I find out who is his ombudsman and how to get in touch with the FRG? really want to be an active participant for things to do with him, packages and such for when they are deployed.
