By the way, I noticed in the newest 'Bama newsletter that two of our Blue-Crew are having birthdays. So, congratulations to Becky and Marla -- since you didn't kill them for all those times they deserved it!!

That really "inhales sharply through the mouth," Yvonne! I suppose it's going to happen to us too someday, but I like being an ostrich. Actually, son was hoping to bring the new girlfriend with him, but she couldn't get the time off from her new job. So, I suppose the process of "breaking away" is starting... ugh, I'm putting my head back in the sand, now.

Yvonne, remember that YOUR son has a dramatic flair, which probably makes him a good storyteller. MY son would reduce Star Wars to a few sentences! He did say that Nick had fun issuing orders over the "1MC" (speaker) and that someone dumped a can of cream-style corn over his own head (as in "corn on the COB"). His response? I quote, "Oh, THAT took a @#$%-ing genius to think up!" (Secretly, I was laughing on the inside!!!)

So, I hear Blue gets leave starting around April 2... any of you going to see your sailor? Mine will be home for about 10 days, then driving his furniture back to Bangor to furnish his new apartment (Loud sobbing -- his bedroom will be empty!!!)

"My son, the XO!" (Haha!) If so, I'm sure they made quite a pair (remember McHale's Navy?!) I got my call last night around 12:30EST. He was pretty sour... on duty, knowing he had to work Sat-Mon, and not getting to see girlfriend until Sat night (plus no chance to take her out for V-Day). Hopefully, he'll get some good sleep (he doesn't sleep more than about 4hrs at a time on the boat) tonight and improve his outlook. I'm just glad to know they're home. He told me they'll get some leave in April... we also hope he can make it home for the weekend his sister graduates from high school.

If you see him, smack him gently for giving the girlfriend more emails than me... then hug him real hard because I love him! Hugs to YOU, too! k.

Terrie and Yvonne: I just got the email with those going to the "welcome party." You dirty dogs! I STILL haven't been to even the STATE, let alone a welcome! I'm so jealous. I'm pretty sure you can't take pix and I also know that the Mechs don't get off the boat with everyone else (gotta turn off the engines... takes a while). But, if you happen to get a chance to hug my sailor, I'd be grateful. And just know that someday, I'll be there with you girls! Hugs, k.

Unfortunately, no photos are allowed :-( Please go my personal page and read a blog post there titled, "How to Send Email to a Submarine." Just about everything you need to know will be in that document. If not, we'll find the answer! Hugs, k.

I know it's cold comfort, Pen, but word about the halfway boxes got to us so late that neither Yvonne or I got one to our kids either... I hope the nation's supply of blue wax was large this year because there are going to be lots of candles lit! And you're no stranger for talking to a candle than I am for talking to my kid's bed. Hugs! k.
