Hi, Tammy!
For the gold Omb. info, ask Pickles... that would be the fastest (click on her 'pic' and then click on "Send a Message." Now for the other: You do need to be "sponsored" by a service member to get on base and I don't think ANYONE is allowed anywhere near the boomers (nukes, remember). But the families do meet them somewhere... ask the Omb.; she'll know! Hugs, k.

Pickles, you and Tammy are our only "golden members" for now ;-) Khichi is in Port Townsend, WA and Becky is in Hillsboro, OR (neither of them post very often). You can check other members' whereabouts by clicking on any of their avatars (photos) in the column immediately right of this one (under "Members"). I can't remember if you've joined the Bangor/Bremerton/Kitsap group... that would be a great way to meet others in the area, and they're a lively bunch! Hugs, k.

Welcome, Chris (aka "Ms. Pickles")! OK, now I know where to send you: go to my page and read the blog post "How to send email to a sub." Obviously, you'd change 'blue' to 'gold.'

It's important to know that the emails you send are screened before being given to your sailor. This is prevent bad news from arriving this way... the command won't give him the email. If this is the case, contact the Ombudsman and tell her you need to get the news to your sailor via the chaplain (if one is aboard) or the CO.

If, however, this is not really "serious" news, couch it in as upbeat terms as possible. For example, I wanted my son to know about his grandmother's heart condition. I said, "Mimi had a procedure on her heart today and everything went smoothly. It was out of rhythm again, but they restored it and did some other stuff which should keep it that way for a longer time now."

Hope this helps! Please let me know if there's anything else we can help with. Hugs, k.

Pickles,
Forgive me for not recognizing you. Is your son on the Alabama? Are you asking for his email address upon the submarine or elsewhere? I'm sorry to ask all this, but it helps me know what info you need. Hugs! k.

Well, Tammy, I guess you just became our "Golden Member!" Of course, the Gold crew is out right now, so when Chris gets to Bangor, he might be working with/under Blue crew for a while. Blue is on stand-down right now (time off), but that ends this weekend and it's back to real life on Monday!

Yes, the guys can tell you when they're going out and coming back (although we rarely know when they're headed back until a day before or even hours before), BUT YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DISCUSS THOSE DATES WITH ANYONE. The most specific you can be with friends and family is "some time in December." Once they've left, you can say, "He's gone." And upon returning, you can say, "He's back!"

Be sure to read the OPSEC ("Operations Security") posting found on the Main Page. It has many more guidelines on what not to say/do. Hugs! k.

Hey, ya'll: I just read in Navy News that "Ombudsman Appreciation Day" is Sept 14. If you'd like Jena' and Marina's address, private message me and I'll give it to you. Granted, I have nothing to compare it to, but I think they do a pretty good job keeping us in the loop. Hugs! k.

(...meant to say his December birthday...)

Yup, my "Smitty" said Nick went with them and then they all split up. The fruits of a misspent life: Drew and his bud took "Best Two-Man Team" in one of the video game tournaments! He brought home a trophy and a $50 off coupon for the new release of the game coming in October! (I wish he'd have worked as hard at h.s. math).

I know "Sunshine" (did you see "Remember the Titans?") will be happy to get his surfer skin back! Fill him with cookies and don't sprain a shoulder with all those hugs. We've decided to celebrate Drew's December (gone again - 4th in a row) when we go there in October. Christmas will get celebrated when (if?) they get leave after next cruise (drat that Navy!)... k.

Indeed, welcome Pen! So far, by pure luck, we're ALL Blue crew here. What's your Sailor's rating (job)? My kid is a Nuke somewhere in the back of the boat, so I don't know how often he'll cross paths with yours. But, I'll tell him to keep an eye out.

I hate to be the fly in the ointment, but the guys are probably going to be cruising over the Christmas holidays (so you can make plans). So, if you need to get hooked up with the Ombudsmen or anything else, just give a shout! Hugs, k.

ASmith, Add me as a friend and I'll hook you up with the newsletters.

Yvonne, my kid is going to that convention too (video games, sheesh!)... I wonder if they're going together?

Terrie, I've only got one word for you: JEALOUS!!!! Hugs, k.
