That is SO weird to think about! Yeah, Alex wasn't born yet when it had its first crew! :) It amazes me how long subs last. :) I just got an email from him and I was sitting in a room with my family and I let out a "woo!!!" because I was so excited and my parents looked at me like I was crazy! :) It's amazing how much an email can make me so happy! :) :)

Most of the guy coming to the reunion are what you call plank owners.  What that means is they are the first crew that the Alaska ever had.  They are the first crew to start with the boat.  That would be so cool to be an plank owners.  But most of the crew that they have now on the boat was not even born when the Alaska first hit the water.  So the boat is older than most of the crew.  I was just coming in the Army when the boat hit the water, just think about it.

Kathy-thanks for the info! :) :) I sleep with my phone next to me, just in case. :) I saw that they'd be having a reunion! :) That's so cool that they do that! :)

My son usual called me as soon as they docked and he could call.  Usual it was while waiting for the base taxi to go back to the bks. He did not have a set time that he called but I don't think it was at 3 in the morning, it was at a normal time.  I read on the inter net that the members of the past crews are planning a reunion next year at Kings Bay for the boats 30 year anniversary.  They have a face book page so if you have a page try to look it up.

Hey I just have a question for you who have been through deployments before...when they call you for the first time, is it usually a specific time of day or could it be in the middle of the night? Just wanna make sure I don't miss it. :)

Thanks for the info.  It is really nice to know that the wives have our backs.  When my ex husband was in Desert Storm there was no family support what so ever.  I was not even told when my ex was coming home.  I am so glad that the military now has family support systems.  My son always tells me not to worry about the half way boxes.  He is so like his father.

Several months back I had asked if any of you knew anything about the half way boxes and the OMB. I wanted to share that I saw on the Alaska Blue FRG page that the wives were organizing boxes for the single guys, so it looks like they have it covered. They mentioned contacting the "loved ones" of the single guys too, but I haven't received anything from them. Several of the wives had commented that they would adopt single guys, so that makes me feel better.

I don't know if my great grandma could crochet but my grandma taught my sister and I to crochet but I have not crocheted since I was about 12 years old.  My grandma is very talented, she even crocheted my sons christening gown.  I was a little to hot for him to wear a crocheted gown so she sewed a gown for him.  I guess that is the perks of being the oldest grandchildren you grown up with grandparents that spoil you, and my son being the first grandchild and first great grandchild on both sides does not hurt also.

I sew a bit, I just made a quilt for my boyfriend's sister's new baby (due any day!). I can knit a little- you get a choice of square or rectangle! hahaha I wish I could crochet. My great grandma could crochet really well and we have an old blanket of hers. I would love to make a brightly colored granny-square blanket, but I'm not particularly patient.
