I am like you I like to shop on line also.  I also don't think you are making a big deal out of the card thing.  But as long as he gets it.  My son has a good friend that lives in housing and his wife is a stay at home mom so he get everything shipped there.  But the really bad thing about not being able to get mail was that he could not vote for the 2nd time and all his American Legion mags. come to my house.  So I get two American Legion mags in the mail every month.  My son will be turning 25 the week he has to go to Pearl.  So we will be doing an early birthday, besides we don't do birthdays.

I'm not a fan of the PO box AT ALL! Sunday was my son's birthday and I didn't even dare send him a present because I wasn't sure about the delivery. I believe they accept anything from the USPS, but many retailers don't ship to PO boxes and I prefer to order on-line and ship directly because the packaging is so good. I did send him a card, but found out that he had checked his box on Friday and hadn't gotten it yet, and it's too much of a hassel for him to check everyday, so he hadn't even gotten my card. Made me sad to think he was hoping to find one on Friday and didn't. I'm probably making way more out of it than he would, but it has definitely eliminated my normal shipment of treats to him!

wow that's too bad that they have to pay to get a PO box! I guess I'll keep sending mail to one of our friends then. Thanks for the info :)

I called a couple of bases and they told me that they do not do that.  When my son was in CT he had an address when he was in the barracks.

Comment by Minnie on June 11, 2013 at 6:31pm

Kathy- it's not just KB that does that. As far as I know, it's all Navy bases. The bases up here in Hampton Roads do the same thing. That's why I end up with ten different guys' mail here, hahahaha

Comment by Kathy on June 11, 2013 at 6:28pm

To get any mail it goes like this if you live in the barracks you have to pay for a po box.  Which KB is the only military base that does that.  If you are at any other military base you do not have to pay to get any mail.  If you do get an po box they will not sign for any fed ex or ups boxes.  My son has a friend that gets his mail any time he needs it.  Now if they live in housing or off base they go through the regular mail.  I have tried to get my Congress man to see why that is and some guy called my son and was a real ass to him when it was me who call my Congress man.  I worked as a Mail clerk in the Army and I have talked to other Mail clerks in the Navy and they can't believe that they do that at the base.

No, he would have to get a p.o. box on base or at the nearest post office. All the base boxes up here where we are are taken so alllllllll my boyfriend's friends have their mail sent to my apt, lol

Lin-hahahaha okay! Thanks :) do they all have different addresses or is there a generic one for the base and you just put their name on the top line? Alex is a blondie...but I have lots of Irish blood in me and I get burnt on cloudy days even! :)

This is so weird for me, since it's his first deployment and my first experience waiting through it. I am kinda glad that they're silent only because I don't have internet at home so I go to the library--so this saves the stress of missing any of his emails. I sure do miss them though! I know that Alex mentioned that his phone was out of service until the first part of July which makes me think it'll be around then. It's so exciting to think about that first phone call that we'll get! Is there an address to send packages to? I have been sending mail to a friend that lives close by so it's easier but I thought it'd be neat to send him some sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat so he doesn't get fried after not seeing the sun for three months. ;) Is it okay to send things like sunscreen?

I have a feeling that the boat ride is almost over I think maybe 2 more weeks.  Now I could be wrong, so don't quote me on it.  I just know my son has to be back by July to out process out for the base.  kbeana611 I know how you feel I am back in school and I have a exam on Sat and Mon. not fun I hate studying.
