I'm not sure which crew he is with - I don't get much information from him :) Was your son in Balston Spa or did he do all of his training in Goose Creek? I'm glad to hear he is enjoying what he is doing, it's a lot of work and a long commitment if they don't.
My son is home on leave before joining the Alaska. It was -12 degrees this morning with a -30 degree windchill. I think he will enjoy the weather in Georgia!
Hi Lin - An ELT is a specialty training offered to some MMs after they complete Prototype. It stands for Engineering Laboratory Technician and has a chemistry focus from what I understand. There is also specialty training in Welding for some of the MMs. It adds another 3 months on to their Nuke schooling and gives them a more defined job, especially on a carrier where the crew is larger.
Hi all - I just found out this week that my son is heading to the Alaska. He is in Balston Spa finishing up his ELT training, and then supposedly he has 30 days before he has to report. I am looking forward to this next leg of the journey!
Seems like forever since my son has been gone.. His brother is getting ready to come home for 2 weeks before going to Japan, hoping they can at least have a couple of days .. hurry home crew :)
Thank you for the advice. I will down in Jax for 2 weeks visiting family. I'm hoping he ships out while I'm there but if not at least I will be able to see him.
Lin, sorry for your loss.. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
Jeremy's family is so happy to have him home for awhile . He is an instructor at the training center for the time being. He does so love his subs, so I am sure he will be happy to be assigned to another sub when the time comes.
Thank you so very much Lin for taking over the group. I didn't want to just delete it. I am sure you will do a fine job. Again thank you, and I will say my good byes to this wonderful group of women. Happy Easter to all.
