Lin - I lived in central GA mostly, but grew up in the Acworth/Woodstock area till middle school.. My dad still lives in North Ga (near Lake Altoona)

He didn't have a specific sub in mind, he actually wanted west coast, but secretly, I'm glad he's close!

Comment by danagagirl on November 14, 2011 at 6:44am

Lin - yes that is correct, however, I was born and raised in GA..but my ex was military, and I stayed in Jacksonville (FL)

That's good that the dry dock is there.. I just knew he would be sent somewhere else, once he got close enough to me.

Lin - is the dry dock still at King's Bay? I'm glad I don't have to worry about the mail and stuff for a while. He is a Culinary Specialist on Submarines :)   chief cook and bottle washer!! Shhh don't tell him I said that.. he'll get me. Thanks for the info.

Thank you Denise and Lin.. actually my Alaska son is a CSS, he is to report Jan 2, will they be out at that time? His brother is an IT. I'm trying to figure out all the important stuff like mail, packages, email, etc..before he goes, cause like everyone else my son doesn't give a lot of information and I know some things they can't discuss.

Welcome danagagirl to the group.  We are happy to have you.  My son is a MT, and I just heard from him by email.  It is always good to get a email while they are deployed.

There is a lot of information on the websites that should help answer any of your questions.    My son tells very little, so I am usually in the dark.  His usual answer to any question,  "I can neither confirm or deny that" which is rather frustrating, but I do understand the secrecy of this service.

 Again, welcome!!

I found out my son will be on the Alaska - Blue Team and that is where my knowledge ends..any advice and insight would be appreciated

I'll check on that, Lin.

The waiting for an email is always difficult, I think!, but I keep writing.

No you cannot send attachments or the email will not be received. And I email him everyday and it makes me feel a little better just writing to him but it will be a few weeks before I even get one back from him.

Great advice Lin ( Winston' s Mom); however, I was told that pictures shouldn't be sent since it is too difficult too down load them.  Thus, the sailor may not get his email from home which is indeed important to him.   I stand for correction if this isn't the case.
