Hi Ladies! I'm starting to feel a little lonely and thought I would check in to see how everyone else is doing. I haven't received any indication that my weekly emails have been received so I'm curious if anyone else has heard anything. It's homecoming week at the high school this week so lots of activities for my girls. We even tie dyed shirts Saturday night. Haven't done that for about 30 years! We are enjoying a mild but dry fall in the upper midwest, I hope it holds out for awhile.
Thanks for all your responses. I am glad I was able to connect to this group. It is unnerving not knowing what to expect and this has help to alleviate my own personal anxiety.
I will definitely post the group if I hear from my son. I have been getting the emails have been altered so will continue to send them.
Thanks again!
I haven't heard from my son at all, but since it's his first time out I don't really expect to. I did get a reply that my email had been altered, so at least I know it made it to the right location, but I didn't get that with the last one I sent, so it must only happen when they actually receive it. I hope that if any of you do receive emails you post give us an update so that we know they are all ok :)
It depends on how busy he is with quals if he's working toward his dolphins. But I heard pretty frequently. (every other day or every few days) Sometimes it would be about a week. There was also a period of time (over a month) with nothing because they were "running silent". During that period they can still receive some, but my boyfriend didn't get some of the emails I sent until they were back in full communication. :) It's hard to get used to the wait for communication, and also the lag time involved, but what I did to make it so I wouldn't miss emails is put a filter on my email (I have gmail) so that all his emails would go to my phone as a text (I don't have a smartphone.) I couldn't read more than a few words of it on my phone but at least I knew that I should go check my email. :) :) Good luck with everything! My sailor is on the gold crew and I just went through that a few months ago... It's not easy! :)
How often does the crew get to email home while out on deployment? I got one email after a few days out but silence since. Is that normal? Does anyone know if they still get the emails we send, even if they can't email back? This is the first time out for our son.
Oops, I wasn't quite right. You only use the first 6 letters of the last name (my son's last name happens to be six letters so I didn't know that). I copied this from the Sub Moms page:
For example, if John W. Jingleheimer is serving on the USS LOLLIPOP, Gold crew, you’d address his email like this:
To: jinglejw@lollipop-gold.navy.mil
Subject: MM2 John Jingleheimer
Stephanie - I have the email for the sub if your son is on the Blue crew:
last name, first and middle initial@alaska-blue.navy.mil (smithja@alaska-blue.navy.mil).
At least that is what I was given, hope it's right!
