Janlee...Congratulations to your son on receiving his Dolphins! What a huge accomplishment for him. I'm sure your cup runneth over with pride, as it should be!

Thank you Rebecca..

Also Proudmom---i know that our son emailed us when he received his Dolphins about a month ago and we just received the letter in the mail yesterday. So if your son was pinned recently, maybe your letter is on its way..:))

Janlee- Try not second guess yourself. As moms we do the best we with what we have at the time being. I'm sure we all try to be the best moms we can be. =)

I'm sure your son appreciates the support you have given him.

Proudmom- I'm sorry you didn't receive a letter. I don't know why you didn't get one, or how to rectify it. I do know that the letter that we received was sent to us from the Captain of the boat. Maybe the Ombudsman can help you get a letter of recognition for your son receiving his Dolphins? --Just a suggestion (I know I would rather get a letter late, then not get one at all). I hope she is able to help you, if you decide to pursue this.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. The word 'proud' doesnt seem to define it. We need a bigger word...lol..and congrats to all those whos sons have reached this goal and good luck to all those who are in the midst of it. I knew it was tough and stressful on them, but somehow it didnt sink in how tough it actually is on them until we received the letter. i feel as if i should have supported him more. Im new at this, as he is the first in our family to join the military..:)

Janlee.....big congrats to your son for getting his dolphins!  It is a lot of work.  I remember when my sailor got his.  I know how proud you are of him.  I am very happy my son made the choice of the Navy for his career.  He has been in since 1999 and the Navy has provided him, and now my DIL, a nice living.  They bought a home in CT, both gotten college degrees and now DIL - masters.  Could not be prouder of my son.

Congratulations, Janlee, on your son earning his Dolphins. My son is working to earn his Dolphins on this deployment (his 1st deployment). He hopes to have earned them before they get back to their home port. That's a big goal. I didn't realize that we would receive a letter about their earning them. I'm looking forward to that letter :) .

My heartfelt Congratulations go out to your son and to you, Janlee!! I remember when our letter came to notify us that our son received his Dolphins. My husband and I each have our own memento box. When we both finished the letter we 'fought' over whose box it was going into. Lol. =D

-I'm glad I could help ladies. I hope that they will get into port soon. I can't wait to talk to my son again. Or better yet, to see and talk to him on Skype!  I agree, we need to hold onto positive thoughts and keep saying prayers for our loved ones.

Thanks for the info Rebecca..:))..im going to copy and paste so i will have it for future reference. And yes Holly, prayers for positive thoughts!. Also..i wanted to share with you all. i received a letter today from the USS Alex about my son receiving his Dolphins. It stated how HARD it is to get them and how much effort/work it takes. They said we should be so proud and that they share our pride. OMG...i was so choked up. It made me yearn to see him even more. God Bless our boys and all their hard work and good luck to the young men who are still working towards their pin..:).

Welcome to the group Dizeuner. The definition of an Ombudsman is as follows; An Ombudsman is an official representative of the Commanding Officer; he/she plays a vital role in establishing and maintaining current and accurate communication between the command and its family members.

Our Ombudsman name is Tracie. She is very helpful, and I know she can help answer any of your questions. Her phone #1-860-625-3340. If I remember correctly she would like non-emergancy calls made between the hours of 9am-6pm( But call anytime for emergancies).

If you are on your sailor's Contact List, the Ombudsman will contact you via e-mail with when the boat should get into port; usually it is a 24hr notification.  In order to get on the your sailor's Contact List he must contact the Ombudsman and give her your personal information.

Here is the address to mail a package/letter to your submariner.

(Rank/Rate & Name-last name first)

USS Alexandria SSN 757

FPO AE 09564-2413

I hope you found this helpful.
