Proudmom- What a gorgeous picture! Is the picture of the Alexandria leaving port from the U.S.? Or is the picture from the crew leaving port from abroad?

Is it a current picture? I sure hope so...just thinking that my son is on the boat when the picture was taken makes me feel sort of closer to him. It hard to explain what I was feeling when I first saw this pic. I just miss him dearly....as I'm sure the rest of you miss your Submariner terribly too.

Thank you Holly and Rebecca for you responses. Im going to wait until the next port to see if he gets it. In the mean time, im going to send him another one, so it would be a bonus if he receives them both at once...:)

didn't know that K cup coffee was needed either. Although my son doesn't freely gives/share information with me. The best way to get information from my son is to ask all the questions. Lol  ...maybe its a guy thing? lol

Proudmom- belated congratulations on having been able to Skype w/your son for 2hrs! I'm so happy for you. =D  (I'm wrestling with the green eyed monster...lol)

janlee- First of all welcome to the group; Like you I found this group by chance, and I'm so happy &fortuante that I did!

I just happen to talk to our Ombudsman yesterday to ask a her a bunch of questions. Most of my questions had to do with care packages...which leads me to your question. The Ombudsman told me that packages are usually sent to the boat's next scheduled port. If our submariner's didn't receive the package when they are in port, then the package should be waiting for them in the next port they land in.

I don't know if it is common that packages are lost all together, and never seen again. I'm sure that our Ombudsman will be able to answer that question. I know that she has advised me not to send valuable items (or sentimental items) ...that cannot be easily replaced. I'm sorry I can't answer your questions fully. I'm a 'newbie' at this too... This is my son's first deployment.

Janlee-  If you don't how to contact the Ombudsman, her info is on page 4 of this group, third one from the bottom.

I hope you found this helpful.

Hi.my name is Jan .i was on-line trying to figure out a way to track my sons missing care package and it brought me to this group!..I was on N4Ms when my son was in BC, and left to join a FB group. I was so HAPPY and SHOCKED to see there is a group for the USS Alexandria!!. My son has been in for 2 years now and is stationed in Groton CT and serves on the Alexandria. I was so upset (doesnt even describe it) when they pulled in and he called saying my care package wasnt there. He received the package from his wife, but not mine. Ive been reading here and realize that it may be lost forever, its not really the items, just the fact that he was looking forward to getting it. All the holiday cards and letters i sent him..gaaahhhhhhh...im so upset...lol..is there any hope that it will find him and he may get it for x-mas?...if not, will it come back to me?..should i just chalk it up as a loss (boo) and ship him another one?..sorry for all the questions, im just so happy i found this group!..:))

Ginny K'sProudMom- Here's a link that might help you get ideas to on what to send in your care package(and it is full of useful information).

http://www.navyformoms.com/group/submoms/page/halfway-boxes-mail-drops

I found this link under the group Sub Moms. To the right of the comment boxes, underneath the list of members are a few different topics you can get information on. The link I gave you is listed as *Halfway Boxes &Mail Drops.

In addition, I was advised that when sending care packages reduce the amount of 'trash'.( For example, packing peanuts or packing material).. The reason being that it will end up in the ocean. So,try optimize the space in your care package..instead of packing peanuts, use tootsie rolls or jaw breakers. Lastly, since our Submariners have little storage room, try to send some practical items.  I hope you find this helpful.

I'm so happy for you Gail! I know I was really exicted when I received the first phone call from my submariner.

I wish your Dad a Happy Birtthday, and I send my best wishes too!
