Yay, for homecoming!!! I'm getting excited especially with buying plane tickets this week. Amanda - want do most people wear to the homecoming - since it will be cold - I figure it won't matter what I have on - since I will be bundled up! haha I haven't even thought about Christmas shopping this year. My sailor wants to do a family cruise on his leave - so I'm waiting for leave dates to book that and if we do that, that will probably be Christmas ( besides a few other things to open) I'm a typical mom and could never get some of that up. We also have a daughter who is almost 26 (unmarried) so no one really NEEDS anything!!

It sounds so good hearing everyone talking about "home coming". We are on the downhill side :)

We are from California. My son's first boat was stationed at Bangor, Washington. Land duty was in NY at the proto-school where he met his wife. Next station was in Groton, CT. They have bought a home in CT. Yes it is expensive flying but I go Southwest and try to book in advance.

Amanda - Is there a boat meeting this week? I did actually get the newsletter via email this week. I 'm planning on buying plane tickets this week - you think we are safe enough on the date? Email me if you find out anything different. Do you still have my email address?

Holly - where do ya'll live? We live in Kansas. And I'm like Karyn and very detailed person - so it does drive you crazy and time. Like now I have a Plan A and Plan B depending on which stand down leave he gets. It drives me crazy not being able to plan everything out to the last detail. I have found that this crew does make the new ones feel so welcomes. My sons Sea Dad and Chief even went to his A School Graduation.

Just wanted to pop in and say welcome to Holly. Joining a sub for the first time is so exciting and your son will definitely remember his joining the sub while it is underway. Most sailors walk on their first time and yours will be flying to meet the boat~awesome! One thing always to remember is it is called "silent service" for a reason. You will get "somewhat" use to not knowing "details". If you are anything like me, it is hard. I am a detailed type person. lol Welcome.

They do make you proud!!! Congrats!!! This is our first deployment our son has been in a little over a year - he finished school and got on the Alex just in time to leave!! Don't worry we never know details!! haha Ask any questions ... we are all in this together and are here for each other.

Welcome Hollly! You are not interrupting, just because your son isn't on the boat yet - he will still be part of the crew. Sounds to me like you are the right boat - the USS Alexandria is based out of Groton. What does your son do on the boat? Is he still in A School or he is transferring in? Glad to have you and hope you and your son can join us in welcoming the Alex back.

I understand that Janice. I hope that he does get the early leave! Thanks for having your son tell mine to call me. He tried like 4 times the technology over there isn't good that's for sure. Ended up getting to "skype" to him - by typing. But oh well. We plan to buy our plane tickets to come to the homecoming the first of next week. I won't buy our son's ticket home till we know his leave dates for sure. I know they will be about $200.00 more by then.

Amanda - Exactly!! That is one reason why we are going to come out for homecoming. We have plans for family vacations/trips for if he gets leave first half of stand down or second half. Seeing that our son is new to the boat I am figuring he will get second half. He said he should know leave dates within a month.
