luv2teach ... an ombudsman is the contact person from the boat to the families, she is suppose to keep us informed on how things are going on the boat, when they are delayed (like now) when they are coming and going from ports, etc ... (that is how my son explained it to me) Also she holds monthly meetings to keep the wives/moms informed. Our ombudsman does hold monthly meetings, but I'm not sure she does any of the other contacts like I was told a ombudsman would, or if so I have never been contacted.

Tammy...we live in New York (Long Island) only 2 hours from Groton Conn. I don't know anything about monthly meetings...my son said there is a wives club, but I am obviously not a wife ! Forgive my ignorance but what is the ombudsman?

luv2teach - I think you hear about events like these at the monthly meetings. I have never once heard from the ombudsman about any meetings or events. I only find things out from this group. I was told by my sailor that the ombudsman would keep me informed during the deployment - but NO - not even after I emailed her - not even a reply. I don't know if it is because we live in Kansas - so 1500 miles away and it is just assumed that we wouldn't be attending. Hopefully if you live close enough to Groton you can attend some of these meetings and meet other moms/wives.

Amanda your husbands sense of humor must be similar to my sons. He was talking to his sister and she asked how hot it was and he said it a balmy 122 degree. I also was very surprised to here from my son!

Has anyone else heard from their sailor today? I got a call around 9:30 this morning (our time). Guess they are all safe and sound - just a little delayed for now.
