Welcome to the group! This is also our first deployment with our son. This group has really helped me with questions I've had like care packages, etc. I got my "this is my last call for a while" at 2:00 am this morning (our time). Email is great - I email my son every day - per his request (hearing home news help alot)- and as Amanda said I date everyone in the subject line - and many times he has said he is missing one and to please resend it. Welcome to the group these ladies are of great help and comfort!!

Hi My son is on the Alex and called us yesterday. I am new to this website. I don't think I will be hearing from him again for a while...this is his first deployment. He is an officer.

Oh Gail...I feel for him. With the 120 degree weather, I am not surprised. They see no sun for months and months and then...wham! Have fun at the dinner all of you. Looking forward to hearing about it. :)

Hi! Thanks for all the suggestions on the box. Just finished up with my second SKYPE call. He has duty tomorrow (again). Three day rotation. Said this being 5th time there, he has not even left base. 120 degrees, long pants and collard shirts are some of the restrictions due to religious holiday going on. He told me he stocked up on goodies and snacks. Hold off sending anything right now as no room. But I think I will start my box and wait. Anyway, hope you all enjoyed your talks. I know I did and was appreciative of getting two. He was going to call his gramma and aunt and uncle before retiring. His uncle was diagnosed with State IV lung and liver cancer a couple months ago. So I was glad he was able to call them. Take care all.

Hi Janice - that is what I told my son, he said I went over board and sent to much - and he didn't have room for it all - I told him to share it - and probably by the time they left port it would be gone! So I guess I will tone it down this next time.

Hi Gail, Thanks for the suggestions - I have sent a couple of local newspapers, and magazines too. He requested root beer sticks for his next box. Went over to our local candy company - Henry Candies and was buying some and told them what it was for and they gave us ten extra bags - said to tell him thank you from them. I thought that was cool. DVD is a good ideal but he didn't take his laptop - he figured since he wasn't qualified yet he wouldn't have time to watch movies because he would have to be studying.

I'm also getting another box ready to send. This is from a kid "sailor" that first said "NO mom DO NOT send a box" Did it anyway and he loved it - just said I over did it - but please in the NEXT box send.... Looking for ideals for something different if anyone has any.
