Welcome Jakey85. As the other ladies have mentioned newbies on the boat are very busy, especially when they are studying for those Dolphins. I think you will find this site to be very helpful. These Ladies on the USS Alexandria group are fantastic in answering questions or for moral support. You may want to join another group called Sub Moms. That group is very active. Yet it comprises of both types of boats, fast attacks and boomers. I've found out through experience that not all Forums are as helpful and friendly as this group and Sub Moms. My son's home boat is the Alex. Yet, currently he is on deployment as a 'rider'  on the USS Florida. I joined the Florida Navy for Moms Forum for another support network and found out that no one has logged on since the last year. *This group is made of an awesome group of Ladies! And I am grateful for them all! God Bless and Happy Holidays to All!!

Even with our son living closer to us we still do not see him that often. He had a wife, 2 kids and a very busy schedule...Works most days and duty officer about every other day makes for some very long days. For the moment we are only 2 hours away, but once a month is about all we are able to manage getting together. I cherish the calls and visits. They find out soon his next duty station so those visits will be less. Skype is wonderful!! Merry Christmas to you all

Thanks for your comment janlee! My son is one of the new guys reporting at beginning of Jan. I probably won't hear a lot either - glad to know I'm not the only one! They are growing up - gotta let them do their thing! Merry Christmas to all!!!

welcome to all new members! as Mainemom has stated..we havent been very active on here lately. We all get busy with our lives, and time just goes by..:) My son has been on the Alex for 4 years now.He has one more year to go. Im pretty sure he is not re-enlisting as he has been looking for houses back here in PA. And he is TERRIBLE with keeping in touch..lol. At first he was checking in with us about once a week,,,then ...he got MARRIED!!..lol. I actually speak more with his wife than i do him. They are coming home after Christmas to spend New years with the family..but even when hes home..he doesnt discuss work very much. I cant remember the last time i saw him in uniform..lol so if the communication slows down..that means hes settled and keeping busy. E mails are probably the best way to keep in touch. There are alot of times my sons phone is off because they are on a "3 day duty' rotation. I hope u all hear from your sons over the holidays and may God watch over them while we are not there to do it..;) hehe..;)

Welcome Jakey85! We have not been very active of late, but anytime you have a question, someone will usually reply!  Not sure what to say about not hearing from your son in a while as the Alex is not out.  I know my son is busy and puts in long hours, and I usually have to check in with him myself.  Welcome again!

Hi, I'm new to this site; just found out about it, so I'm pretty green to the whole environment.  So eager to find out how I can receive support as a mom of a son who is on the USS Alexandria. I haven't heard from my son in quite a while, and didn't know what the best way to stay in touch. Any ideas?

I hope everyone had a great weekend and Halloween. Hope your week is going great too! Fletcher's mom- I'm glad we could help a little. Its wonderful to have Sub Moms as a support group.I've gotten emotional support when I needed it , and  I've learned a lot from the more 'experienced' moms (whose sons have been in the Navy longer than my son). I'll talk to you soon. Take care. <3
