Kayn..what an AWESOME pic!!...congrats to your son! You must be so proud..:)) How cute is your grandson!!!. And i dont blame you for not putting a tree up. I wouldnt either if no one was there. its depressing enough to not have your family there, then to do all that work involved with the tree...ughhhh.:) I hope everyone that has a Sailor moving to NH has good news that they survived the move??...i cant wait to go up for a visit. ..probably around or after Xmas. Weather permitting..:) Glad to have them on land for a while.

Hi All - was trying to post the below picture with my note but, FAILED!  LOL

As you can see, my son made Chief.  I was able to fly from California to Connecticut for the ceremony.  It was very emotional.  This advancement was a long time coming.  It was held at the Sub Museum and after we went to the Master Chief's home for a outdoor gathering.  I enjoyed every minute.

I was there for 10 days.  I don't think I wore out my welcome.  LOL   So enjoyed spending time with them and our Grandson William.  DIL is pregnant and due in January.  They are having a girl.  So we will have one of each.  That is the latest on my sailor.

Holidays are always hard when our sailors are not able to be with us.  I too did not put up a tree a couple years back when no one was here.  This year I don't believe I will either.  My step-son and his wife (NAVY) were just transferred to Hawaii and won't be here.  My son and his wife won't make it here either.  So, heck, why put up the tree.  Hopefully my husband and I can go somewhere for the holiday.  Will have to be close as I see a trip to Hawaii next year!  LOL

Just wanted to share my picture as I am very proud of my son (as I know all of you are of your sailors).  Take care everyone.

I'd be one happy mamma cooking on Thanksgiving if i knew our son was coming. I just emailed him last week and told him i have a huge Thanksgiving dinner with his name on it if he is able to get leave..:) Heres to wishful thinking. Havent had a holiday with him in 3 years.:/

:)  Holly's was more recent than mine (near 30 years ago now, if not more) but it is always fun to remember memories!

As for the holidays....so sad probably none of our boys will be making it home.  We are just to far away for them all.  When the Groton crew moves to Portsmouth, they will be about 5 hours from us, and with baby on the way that is to far to expect a trip for holidays. We may just have to go down ourselves.  Our other 2 boys and families are in MO and SC.  Oh well.

Holly that is so awesome!  I love stories like that and to be part of them is even more fun.

I did something like that when my younger brother graduated from HS. I was stationed in Spain and my family was in OH.  I came back for graduation, but my brother did not know this. When my mom and step dad picked me up and took me to the graduation, my brother thought that he was going to help his grandfather out of the car.  He was totally shocked that it was me.  It was fun.

I am sure your DIL to be will remember that for a lifetime, and it will be hard to top for sure!
