Hey Mamma Marsha.... I don't really know what my boy is up to. This is his third year on Tortuga/Ashland. He must be alright and enjoying himself as it seems we hear less and less from him. Miss him and worry all the time of course. Just get used to not hearing from him for a while.
chew92-I would think you need to check into Tortuga site now-good luck to your son
I have not been online in a good while. Now the Ashland is in Japan and the Tortuga is coming back to Little Creek with former Ashland sailors. So which group do I belong now? My son will be in Little Creek (Norfolk) on the Tortuga.
USS Ashland Update: We have safely ported in Yokosuka and the crew is attending schools they would not normally be able to do and gaining the necessary qualifications from them. Pictures and updates will be forthcoming.
Hello-my daughter has been with the Tortuga for almost a year and half. She is an OS
As a mom of a sailor that was on the Tortuga before the hull swap... just saying, thank your sailors. My sailor has been in Sasebo for 2 going on 3 years. They are out a lot; and what ever improvements are on the Ashland; I'm sure they will be appreciated. I missed seeing my sailor for a wedding of one of his siblings but knowing he will get better equipment.... makes me feel sooo much better. Thank you all again for your support!
The only thing that changes is the ships. The Ashland stays in Japan and the Tortuga goes home to Virginia with the crew that sailed to Japan on the Ashland. There is an article about it on the "Stars and Stripes" news. There is a search area where you can put in USS Ashland hull swap. put "Stars and Stripes" in any search engine
Welcome Mama Marsha. This current trip to Japan is my son's first sail. It is so exciting to follow their accomplishments and travel. Welcome. There is a Facebook for the ship too with photos and info about their daily life. Join that Facebook page.
