Do you have a Sailor on the USS Barry?

My son just met up with the Barry a couple of days ago. I haven't seen anyone else say whether or not their Sailor was on the Barry, so upon the advise a good N4M friend, I decided to start a group! Hope there's more Mom's out there that their Sailors call the Barry 'home'.

It's my first time, too. :( My girl, GSEFR Morgan, has already called home a few times this morning. She's nervous, excited, scared, not sure what to expect, but most of all we are going to miss phone time. We talk several times a week and that will be the most difficult challenge for us.

MARCIA -- thanks for the kind words ---   we had a ball with the air personnel -- these 3 boys ate more than our herd of horses (and the young lady ran a close second)!   -- trust me, I've seen my 6' son and 6'4 hubby pack away some chow, but these kids ate like they were starved!  (they even enjoyed my homemade cranberry-orange relish -- only my brother & I like it -- and now my 1 yr old great nephew)   Even though my sailor son wasn't able to be with us on Turkey Day, I know I was giving another military mom some relief about her son/daughter  being unable to enjoy a family feast (may not have been their family, but these kids were so wonderful they felt like family).

Welcome Stacie! :) My daughter is a newbie as well, just in mid-Oct.. Enjoy Christmas with your son. My dd will not be coming since we are across the country and having severe weather.... she is paranoid about not making it back in time. As sad as it will be, she is growing up and making mature decisions, so we are very proud of that. She wbn't be alone which also makes it easier. Her sister, who is also in the Navy, just rec'd her orders on Thanksgiving and will be going to Japan and rec'd her orders for the USS Blueridge.

Thanks, Marcia -- I hope you're right! Was awful last year while he was at BC & not home for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Luckily, a wonderful family "adopted" JC & a couple of his bunkmates so that quashed my mental visions of them sitting in the barricks all alone & eating processed turkey luncheon meat. I was fortunate that he graduated the end of Dec. and was able to fly out to see him -- It was one of the most proudest moments of my life!

The wife of the "adoping" family contacted me to let me know that I could send gifts to her address for JC. The box did not arrive when Fed Ex said it would (paid for expedited shipping & it still took an extra 4 days - another reason to detest the snow!). I did get to watch him open his gifts. I was so relieved and grateful to this family -- they inspired me so much that my family is adopting 4 airmen/women from a nearby airbase for both holidays. I hope I can alleviate some anxiety for another mother who may be experiencing what I did. I'm sure JC will enjoy meeting fellow military brothers/sisters (especially the "sisters").

I'm hoping to get some news from him soon as to when he'll be coming into port. I've not had to opportunity to see this and hear it's a wonderful experience - I want to be there when he hits the ground. Last time, he took a bus home & surprised us!

I guess I'm spoiled - JC's older sister is close by and I see her often - minimum once a week - she comes to help strip stalls & that's our mother-daughter clean and catch-up time -- and she calls to check on ME! I guess it's different when it's a son AND the youngest.

Thanks again for the encouragement -- it's greatly appreciated! I'm going to keep busy with getting ready for Turkey Day, school, and the critters.

MARCIA - wow, 2 1/2 yrs. How do you cope? It's driving me crazy not hearing from JC for long periods - still waiting to hear if he'll be home for holidays

Congrats, Raechelle! & welcome to Moms for the USS Barry.
My son, JC, has been aboard since last year - we miss him much

Hello everyone! My daughter just left Spokane, WA a few hours ago and is heading to VA, and then aboard the Barry, when she docks. I already miss her terribly. She just finished 6 months of schooling and is a GSE. I am eager to hear about her adventures.

Marcia,

We have a variety of critters here - 13 horses (and one due next May), sheep (only 2 old ewes left from when the kids did the FFA/4H showing & we bred them -- sure miss seeing the lambs in Spring), goats (3 whethers), cats (was 10, 2 of the barn cats each had a litter so there's another 9 - but they are oh so cute!), dogs (2 miniature pinchers & our big girl, a 100+ lb. dobe/rotty mix) OH and the hubster. It's a lot of work around here, but I cannot imagine living without them.

I totally understand about the stars -- especially on a warm nite - can sit on the deck and relax looking at the stars -- I like to think that my son is looking at the same stars at the same time as me. Can't imagine how clear the stars must be on his ship out in the ocean Josh's aunt gave him a telescope a few years ago & for awhile (before girlfriends, cars & that harley) we'd look up on-line the various star patterns then try to find them with his telescope.
The only wildlife I see are foxes, rabbits, deer & pewy skunks (and the one barn cat we can't catch). I thought I saw a coyote, but people have said we don't have coyote in Delaware -- then it must have been a really really tall, light brown "fox" i saw. They said we don't have cougars either, but there have been numerous sitings & newspaper articles about them further north

So where is your sailor?.

Marcia,

OOOPPSSS -- guess I need more practice & care with my comments. Thanks for reining me in.
Thanks for the heads-up on NH - I'd love to meet other moms & brag about my sailor boy. I did visit the DE Moms, but activity was about a yr old. One of the sites I chatted with a dad.
My hubby wants to retire to NC in a few years - he's a NASCAR nut & loves the Charlotte track. I don't mind where we go so long as I have pasture for my critters -- love 'em to death, but sometimes they cut back on travel time. Delaware is basically flat -- some hills up north by the PA line. Much of the farm land is now gone. Just in the last 3 yrs, our area has quadrupled with housing developments. Even the Amish are selling & moving to other states. We still call it home though. Hope we do NOT get another winter like last year. I HATE snow -- even as a kid I was last out & first in during winter months. My kids & siblings, however, love it. Gimme heat anyday! If your sister & hubby need assistance retiring to DE, holler (brother is a real estate agent) & I've been here for quite a few centuries.
