Do you have a Sailor on the USS Barry?

My son just met up with the Barry a couple of days ago. I haven't seen anyone else say whether or not their Sailor was on the Barry, so upon the advise a good N4M friend, I decided to start a group! Hope there's more Mom's out there that their Sailors call the Barry 'home'.

Navy Moms! Was just doing some looking on the internet and found some great stuff on the Barry! There is a Facebook page...U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. Sixth Fleet....great pictures of the ship! Was soooo excited to find a picture of my son after he received an award last week! Also, found articles on the exercises they were doing a couple weeks ago...Proud Manta 2013...check it out!

Just found this when looking for something else online about USS Barry.  A reported from Businessweek went on the ship in September for a tour.  Neat article!

Thank you for this great information!  No, not getting updates from CO.  Will have to ask him about it and also remind him about wifi on Liberty.   This is new for him and us :)

Hi All....when our sailors get to a port and have liberty, they are allowed to use wifi and post information. They just can't say where they are going after that until they get there. Our son posted amazing pictures of Naples/Rome. This was his first time off the ship since he deployed. Looks rainy, but what a great big smile on his face! And the Vatican, Trivi Fountain and Colloseum were beautiful, as well as the food he was enjoying. I know emails have been a problem...I haven't gotten one in days, but when they are back up, make sure your sailor contacts the ship's omsbudsman and gets the updates from the CO forwarded to you! ...they are wonderful and even say where they have been and what they have done! Son's last wifi update a few days ago was that they were back in Crete....once again...they can post stuff once they are somewhere and it is approved...just not where they are going or what the ships mission/plans are.

Hi, my stepson called his mom today and she relayed a message to us.  He said that email is down right now on the ship.   I don't think I can say on this board where they're at, but if you message me, I'll give a little more info.  Don't have too much but will share what I have :)

My daughter and I have not had trouble e-mailing each other.  She seems to be receiving all the messages I have sent.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that your e-mail will flow more smoothly.  I know it's hard to not be able to talk to your loved one.  I haven't tried "snail" mail yet.  Blessings to all.

Email seems to be working OK but I think there was one he didn't get. Has anyone snail mailed anything yet?  Wondering how long it takes to reach the ship.

We are doing fine but he could send to his wife but she couldn't send out to him. I believe they got it figured out though. We have even been able to send him pictures of his nieces and he has responded pretty quick.

Hi Kate, I haven't gotten any failure notices but he gets only about 1 in 3 of the emails I send, so I resend if I don't hear from him within a few days.  His grandma got some failures.

Brief note from the sailor also. Very busy...exhausted. Even forgot it was his birthday until someone mentioned it to him!
