Do you have a Sailor on the USS Barry?

My son just met up with the Barry a couple of days ago. I haven't seen anyone else say whether or not their Sailor was on the Barry, so upon the advise a good N4M friend, I decided to start a group! Hope there's more Mom's out there that their Sailors call the Barry 'home'.

I received an email from mine also. Seems they hit some rough waters on the way but said the weather is very nice where they are.

I heard from my stepson this morning.  They can't say too much in emails but he said he has sea stories already!  He said he will try to call when they are in a port. I still don't have any info on Skype so hopefully he will have that for us later.

California and Arizona sound good about now.....nice warm areas. Although we're having a mild winter so far, it's still too COLD for me! I wonder what the weather is going to be like where our sailors are going.

I am in Phoenix, Arizona.

Hi judy...the delay was a good thing. His wife was able to pick him up and take him home for a couple days for liberty. I am in Orange County, CA. Loved Chicago when we went to boot camp graduation!

Glad to have company here! It must be heartbreaking to have to leave again after such a short time....especially when he wasn't expecting to do so. I know they had a slight delay before actually sailing out because of the weather. So, what part of the country does everyone live? I live in a suburb outside of Chicago.

Our son had an amazing trip visiting ports...but it is sure a crazy way to see the world! He especially loved Spain. Not sure where they will stop this time but it's always an adventure.

Hello my son is aboard the Barry as well :)

Yes, that must be a shock!  This is my stepson's first deployment (he graduated from boot camp in August and has been with USS Barry since September).  We talked to him on Sunday and he was then putting his cell phone on suspension.  He didn't have details yet about the use of Skype.  It is good at least we can email him.  It is his first time out of the country so we are hoping the ports will be an adventure, but also praying for everyone's safety.
