USS Bataan LHD-5

Group for family members of Sailors who are on the USS Bataan (LHD-5)

Members: 144
Latest Activity: Aug 25, 2019

I decided to start this group to see who else may have a Sailor on this ship; or heading to this ship.

Granted, we may be a bit limited to what we can discuss openly online, but if nothing else, may be a good way to connect and network off-line as well.

Make sure to not disclose advance ship movements or other OPSEC issues.

My son is an FC2 on this ship.

As always I thank all that serve glad you enjoyed your time with your love one and thank you sent for there dedicated service. To all love ones if your love one is aways and need a care package sent I have given my time to a local  Ill/Ind organization that helps those family who cant afford to continue to send care packages. We want to know if there are heros who have no family and are in need of some care from home. This group will not give others heros information out its group policy. Sent the loss of my husband in 2006 I haven't been as active but believe in this group. Operationcarepackages.org. Debbie smoothers founder out of joliet ,ill brother is a hero missing in action from past service.

Back home now from visiting my son, goodbyes are always hard.  We had a great visit with him, gave us a tour of the ship.  Boy, I don't think I could live on a ship  for months on end.  Thank you all for serving our country!!!   Loved seeing what he does and meeting his sailor friends on the ship. Lots of history in Va. and NC. We also went to NC. to visit my sister and brother in law for easter, that worked out really good since Curtis got Monday off also. So we could stay with them Sunday night.  This was such a good visit, best one yet, but still so hard for me to say goodbye.  Now I'm catching up on wash and daily chores before I go back to work tomorrow.

Bataan Families,

I am Bataan Ombudsman Stephanie. I am one of your 2 Bataan Ombudsman. Ombudsman Kim just emailed the Bataan CMC about the things posted in the news these past few days and I felt I should pass this info along to you all. Captain Vassilakis will be holding Co's Call later today to speak with our sailors concerning these announcements as well. As of now, we are still funded for all upcoming missions that are on our schedule. CO was assured by his boss that we are not cancelled for anything as of yet.

As we always maintain, anything can change at anytime in the military. It all depends on the temperature of events overseas and the politics of things in Washington.

What we read in the media isn't always 100% of the story. So, the main thing at this time is to please be sure to keep speculations to a minimum and to seek answers from your sailor and from your command ombudsman. If we don't know the answer, we will find out to the best of our ability for you.

Ditto Sandra. I don't think any of our sailors knew about this until now.

Sandra,  So exciting congrats to you and your family.  My son is home right now for Christmas, came in late last night.  I just told him I was on my N4Moms and was catching up on everyone.  Told him about you and he knows your son very well, he said he took over for him so he could go to the hospital.
