My sailor is an FC with the CIWS program. He is a fire controlman, but not a fireman.
He controls the firing of the weapons systems, pneumatics, maintenace, computers, etc.
This is his first deployment.

My daughter is an MU - Musician, she will be on the USS Blue Ridge when the band tours outside of Japan. She performs for change of commands, festivals and parades.

That's exciting!  My cousin is in the Air Force band.  She plays the trumpet.  What instrument does your daughter play?

CCR Katie is an IT Information Systems Technician which covers Computer Systems & Repair, Radio Communications, and lots more stuff. Her job on the BR has to do with the operating systems on the computers, I know part of her job was to issue passwords so that everyone can log onto the computers. She pretty much runs her office she says.
Jonis - Kathleen's son is a Boatswain's Mate in the Deck Dept....He is one that keeps the ship looking ship shape, & drives the boat.... His group was responsible for the Secretary of the Navy deciding not to retire her as early as they had planned...
Oh Kathy, I hated when my son gave up the alto sax to play football, baseball, track and field and basketball. It was hard to change out of football clothes to band uniform at halftime I guess!!!
My daughter Kristina is a JO, her duty assignment is Ordinance Officer (or at least that's what I've heard her call herself) among other things aboard ship. She also pulls alot of shore duty as the Officer Presence.
I've been looking these all up in the BlueJacket Manuel.
BTW, Katie should also be in the Art Department.
Hooray for Danielle joining the group!~
My Sailor is Culinary, he will work in what I have been told is the "heart of the ship", he will cook for the Sailors of the Blue Ridge. I am sorry I don't have many more details than that. This will be his first deployment. He is excited and I am anxious, this will be my first complete holiday season without my son. He is my only boy and this is really hard for our family. I am hoping that he will be here for Halloween at least to spend time with his little sisters. Myron will be stationed on the Blue Ridge for 4 years. I am a newbie to the military community, so I don't know a lot of things, I want to learn as much as I can, so that I will be able to hold conversations that make sense. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

I am new to military life as well!  My son was home for 2 1/2 weeks over Christmas & New Year's and it was wonderful.  I don't know the next time I will see him and that is very hard.  Thankful for skype and facetime and all this tecnology!!  He will be stationed on the Blue Ridge for 3 years.

My son is also a culinary specialist. He was home for Christmas and went back on the 26-28 after mechanical problems with the plane. American took care of him.
Veleda, there are two pictures of CS in the galley on the cairns.com.au website. Did you see those?
My son Zach is in IT and was assigned to network security. He has just been on board for a week so I am learning with each email I receive.
