Kyann - Glad you were able to get the Navy Lodge.  We liked being right on base.

hi Sharon - Josh too is waiting but sounds like he just "sent his chit up" about a week ago.  I hope it doesn't take too long to be approved.  He's trying for mid to end july.  Hope we all hear soon!  That's great that the "early out" is with full benefits.

Good luck Kyann with all your plans!

Take care all.

There is a bus, but it only runs three times and (I think) military first.  The train is the easiest.  Your sailor will know all about that.  Here is the website for the base:  http://www.cnic.navy.mil/Sasebo/index.htm

also, i would like to know the best way to travel from sasebo to fukuoka, i guess that is the major airport to get to tokyo?

Comment by hunter's mom kyann HOOYAH on May 20, 2012 at 6:56pm

thanks, kim!  so, when i fly from fuk to tokyo, and i see my flight leaves from tokyo at, say, 5:40pm, it's japan time, and i need to make sure the flight from fuk says i arrive in tokyo before then, correct?  i will talk to hunter about doing that for me.  :)

I forgot..My daughter in law had to fly from FUK to Tokyo twice for her immigration.  She used the place on base to make her arrangements.  (There is a name for it).

Ask your sailor to look into a one way flight for you.  My daughter in law used All Nippon.  They might be able to get you a better price.

The time is the city that you arrive/depart.

I flew from Tokyo to Newark and arrived before I left.  Flight time was 12 hours and time difference was 14 hours (13 hrs during daylight savings).  Flying time is up to 2 hours longer going to Japan.

Comment by hunter's mom kyann HOOYAH on May 20, 2012 at 3:58pm

so, on the times and dates on the web sites for the flights, am i to assume those are ohio times?  or when it says leaving june 20, arriving june 21, is that japan dates and times?

thanks again!

sharon, i didn't say i was going to learn japanese--haha  there is just a class at church offered.  i thought about getting his perspective on travel plans, etc...  please, i'm not that ambitious.  :)  that is good advise, however, to know some emergency phrases.  we do plan to fly on tues, wed, and thurs, so hopefully, that will help on the cost.  we do plan to go only a day or 2 earlier than when the cruise leaves and stay a night or 2 after.  will keep you all posted.  :D
