The only thing that comes to mind is to say how freezing cold the ship is, especially at night. It's best to be prepared with plenty of warm blankets and very warm clothes for sleeping.  The good thing about these short trips out is all the "newbies" can get a taste of what it's like and then they'll be ready for the longer trips.

Hi Angel's mom...I'm one of the Texas moms.  My BHR son has been in the Navy 3 1/2 years. My second son was on the Makin Island but he's out of the Navy now. .I don't get much info either, just bits and pieces.  I haven't heard anything about going to Hawaii this trip, but I'll ask him.  My hubby and I were able to go to Hawaii and then on the Tiger Cruise at the end of their long deployment last year...it was a once in a lifetime experience!  I highly recommend it to anyone who can go.  Glad your sailor loves San Diego, beautiful city and beautiful beaches.  great weather too!  Let us know if we can help in any way.

I am another Texas Mom joining the group, my son has been on the BHR since April 14; I have gotten very little information from him. I would like to know more about the Hawaii trip and has Family Day past?  I think he is really enjoying S.D.

Thanks, Jane. I'll have to Check it out.
I'm almost finished with my class, and then I'll have more time for here. I never knew going back to school would be so time consuming!!!

Mrs. B...You'll need to get the address from your husband.  You'll need his rank and where his bunk is, in addition to the name of the ship and zip.

Wow, didn't know about the movie!!!  my son doesn't share much with me, obviously! ha  But I'll ask him about it and get more info.  Thanks for sharing this news.

On the subject of movies, when the BHR was on their long deployment last year, some of the cast of Avatar came to the ship and spent the day with the sailors.  They not only showed the movie but gave out autographs and took pictures with the sailors.  My son has a picture with Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang.  What a wonderful thing for these actors to do!

Glad we have so many new mom/wives here!

Sarah, welcome to the group! I'm sure you're glad your husband will soon be assigned to the BHR! I can't wait to go out there this summer. My son has already started to plan all our events. All I want to see is the ship! ( and of course my son!)

I want to welcome all our new members. I'm hoping to be back full time in August. I'll finish all my classes and won't be able to use homework and studying as an excuse.
My son told me that a movie is being filmed on the BHR. He Had his picture taken with Liam Neeson. The movie will be out next May and is called Battleship.
After I finish my class and before school starts back, I plan to go out and visit my son. I'm excited to go see him and the new place he calls home.

I don't know the ships address since my hubs isn't on there yet. He won't be on the BHR till after september since his ship is getting decommissioned then. Sorry :/

Amanda, message me sometime. My husband used to be on the BHR and he was an MMFR.  I'm needing to get the address for the ship to send some paper work to them and I wonder if you'd be able to help me with getting that info? Thanks Mrs. B
