The ombudsman is the person who is a link between sailors and their families.  There is a BHR newsletter that was sent to our home while they were on their long deployment last year and it has the names and contact info of the ombudsman on it as well as what's happening on the ship and upcoming dates of family activities and support numbers.

What is an ombudsman?

thanks

Yes, I've communicated with the ombudsman also.  She's very helpful.  It's good to know there's someone you can contact with questions or problems.

I can give you the email address for an ombudsman. I will message it to you on FB.  Your son will need to set up everything for when he gets deployed, but for now, if you have an emergency during his work hours, then you can contact them for help to get a hold of him. He will set things up before deployment with the Ombudsman, and they will walk him through that, before he leaves.  There is also a page for them on FB...here is their link

Hope that helps! Give me a minute and I will message you the address for one of the ladies who is an ombudsman. She is very nice and has helped me once.

I don't get any info from my oldest son either.  Even though he was on a different ship, my second son was always the one with the info and if he didn't know, he'd find out.  He got out of the Navy in November, they were letting some sailors out on early release, he requested it and got it.  So now I don't know much of what's happening. I need to remember to check the FB page more often.  thanks for the reminder!

Thanks Jane. I can't see the videos at school, so I will have to wait until I get home. My son was telling me about how everyone was going to the game. I don't think he went. Even though this game was different, he is a Texas Ranger die hard fan. I did read about it on FB. Now I need to go back and look at the pictures. I always get my news there. Richard never tells me anything, even when I ask. lol

Hello everyone,  I was wondering if anyone has found a video link from the Padre game?

Diana, Welcome. I hope your son finds a place! It took my son a while to get his housing.

Your son got there just in time. The BHR has been in dry-dock for months. It should be out by the 13th of this month. My son says that once it is back in pier 13, then comes the "fun" of putting everything back and getting it ready for the sea!

Hi Diana!  Welcome to the group!  There's another mom from Arizona in this group too, I'm sure she'll comment when she sees this email.  I didn't learn about it until a few months ago, my sons have been in over 3 years.  But it's a great place to discuss what's going on with our sailors.  Since the ship is in dry dock, things are not "the norm".  Where is your son living right now?  As far as a car, there is a trolley system to get around the city, I'm sure that's helpful for now.  Read the older comments and maybe you can get some info for your son on cars. How old is your son?  What department is he in?  Is he making friends yet?   Hopefully we can help you help him.

Hi everyone, well my sailor was in Pensacola and now he is in San Diego, he graduated bc in 11/10. He has been in San Diego a few weeks, and I think he is a little lost. He says he wants a place to live and a car.  Was told about this group and thought I would join, I want to be encouraging to my son.

Thanks

Diana
