I added a video of the BHR going into dry dock. I am still amazed at the size of the ship!

Hope you adjust ok and you can get some support and make friends. I know there are lots of activities for BHR families and that should be helpful for you right now. But write again if you need to! :)

I haven't had my husband for 7 months, so I think I'll do fine without him on duty nights. I'd just been told by someone that it was every 3 nights and I was really hoping they were wrong. :) So I'm glad to hear they are wrong. Thanks so much!

My son said duty is every ten days. He has it tonight. I can tell that my daughter-in-law is adjusting. She use to call or text me all night about how she missed him. Now she will maybe send me a message to say hi.
I am glad that he will be home for Christmas.

I think it's every 10 days. I'm not 100% sure, but that's what I seem to think.

How often do they normally have overnight duty?
Comment by momoftwosailors on December 7, 2010 at 11:11am
Mrs. B. and Margaret..Thanks for the info on PCS. I have one son on the BHR and another on the Makin Island who was very fortunate and just got early release from the Navy. He is married and yes, overnight duty was very hard on him and his wife( who is also from another country) but they worked through it. He's also expecting. Needless he's very thankful he was able to get that early release. Don't hesitate to reach out for help from the Navy and people around you.

Mrs. B. My son is also newly married, and she hates it when he has duty! She is not only newly married, but just moved to the US a few weeks before the wedding. She is still trying to learn the culture and language. I a
Glad the ship is dry dock, this will help her to get to know people before he foes back out to sea.

PCS stands for Permanent Change of Station. :) And thanks so much...yeah, military life is hard, hard, hard on the spouses. I've already had my "anger" fits with the Navy...but I am a newly wed (only been married about 7 months) and we already have a baby (premature) and I'm very close to my husband...right now he is my only friend, plus I'm REAL clingy...so I dread deployments! :( I can't imagine life with out him, especially with the struggles we've had with our new born son, etc. Thanks so much for the information and I will contact the ombudsman for the BHR! Thanks

Margaret...no, I haven't seen the pictures of BHR in dry dock!!! Where can I find those?
Mrs. B...what is PCSing? My son has been on the BHR over 2 years. They went out on lots of short cruises before the one long deployment. I don't know what will happen after April but your husband should be able to get that info before too long. I can't imagine how hard it is for spouses of sailors but I know there is lots of support there in SD...contact the ombudsman of the BHR for info. good luck!!!
