My husband just got assigned to this ship...we will be PCSing there in the next 2 weeks. Can anyone tell me how often the ship goes out on training excercises and how often they have deployed in the last 4 years? I'm curious. I'm newly married and am terrified of deployments and just wanna kind of have an idea of what I'll be facing the next 4 years. I know the ship will be in dry dock until April. Please, anyone? can you answer any of these questions? Thanks.

Has anyone seen the pictures of the BHR in dry dock? I was blown away by the size of the ship!

I was going to go, but I stayed home to plan my son's wedding.
How terible about your husbands camera! Good luck in finding some. Look on Facebook. I know they take pictures all the time.

A while back, PBS did a series on the USS Nimitz. I had heard of it, and had heard that PBS was going to air it again. Well, I found it on Netflix. It is available on the "play" instantly section. So far, I have seen the first six hours. They are divided into 10 one hour sections. It follows the USS Nimitz on a seven month deployment to the Persian Gulf shortly after 9-11. I am motivated to finish my homework so I can finish the series!

Margaret,
I would say yes, probably. If you're like me, then you'll probably shed a few tears...of happiness!

Due to all the planning and school starting back for me next week, I couldn't fly out to San Diego, but I do want to fly out for a welcoming home celebration. I have seen pictures, and I want to be there at least once. I wonder if I will be as emotional as I was for his PIR?

Margaret,
Glad your son is having fun on the BHR, he's tolerating being on the ship so much this last year? Mine's ready for it to be over! He's ready to get out of his boots. He had a really bad foot problem on the 7 month trip that took almost 2 months to solve. He's also ready to get back on land and stay there!
I'm sure it's been hard for you to arrange his wedding with him gone. And he only gets one week? I guess it's because they weren't gone as long this time out. What a great week for your family though.
Yes, check out the Carrier series!
It's so moving to be on the flight deck when they are coming into port. They are manning the rails and music is playing. What a great experience! and to know how excited all the sailors are, I was so glad to be a part of it in April and know they are doing it again this morning.

Kari L,
Your son's situation is new to me, being with a Squadron. That could be a good arrangement for him, not being tied to any one ship. His job sounds great!
So he didn't go on this last long deployment with the BHR, he'll go with another ship next year? His first long deployment? How long has he been in the Navy?

momoftwo, I have been so busy. My son is having fun aboard the BHR and left me with working out the details of his wedding on the 20th. He thought he would be able to fly home on the 10th, but the powers that be said he can't leave until after 4PM on the 13th. Then he has to report back by 6AM on the 23. So, he will only get one week to come home and get married. I found out that if you are on active duty, the county waves the 72 hour wait after getting your license.
I will have to look up and see when my local PBS stations will show Carrier.
I asked Richard how the Tigers were enjoying the cruise. He said that it is a small group.
Our boys will be on land tomorrow! YEA!
