Congratulations, Sue. What an accomplishment! I am very happy for both you and your son.  I believe halfway night took place last week or the week before.  From what I understand, it was a great celebration. I'm hoping my son gets his dolphin soon.  I know how important it is to him and I know he will be greatly relieved as well.  Congratulations again!

My son got his dolphins!!!! So so so happy for him.  When we spoke you could hear the pride--and relief--in his voice.  I can't wait for them to come home so I can wrap my arms around him.  He has become good buds with STS2 Carter and FT2 Ramirez. I am grateful that they are all friends.  Still can't figure out exactly when halfway night is for them. Hoping to hear something soon!

I am new to this group and my son is also new to the USS California.  I have been sending the family grams faithfully every week.  Hope everybody's loved ones are well.

Hello again! I am now wondering if anyone knows who the ombudsman is for the ship and if there is a mailing address as well. Are we limited to the family gram only. Thanks. Hope all are well.

Momov8, I sent you a friend request so we can chat. My son is also a Nuke (MM). We can commiserate :)

Karen, thanks for replying. My son did tell me about the 40 word messages, but he referred me to a Richard Snyder and I have no idea how to locate him. Are we to send these messages in email? And I never got a mailing address.  Is there one for the sub and then we just head the address with our sailor's name?  Again, any help will be much appreciated.

I think it is too late for the half way boxes, they are already on board. You should have a sailor mail address from your son. We were told the sailor mails for deployment were to be 40 words, only once a week. The sailors will respond as soon as they are able to do so.

Hi everyone. My son is presently a newbie MM3 ELT on the USS California and I am trying to find information about how to contact the ombudsman and, of course, my son.  Does anyone know this information and could someone direct me to where I can find it? Also, I have seen something posted about halfway boxes (not sure if that is the right term).  I was not aware of those and I hope my son will be able to get one.  He just went to Groton the beginning of June.  He graduated ELT school in Ballston Spa NY at the end of May.  Any help with info would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Hi all - my son is a nuke on The California. This is his first deployment. Has been in the Navy 4 years. He was just married in April. His new bride and mom are missing him!
