Don't know what an FRG group is all about, but here's some links to info in Yokoska. CFAY seems to be the group over the fleet at least in Yokosaka, perhaps 4 Japan? Anyway, they have links to lots of good info. And email addresses. CFAY FFSC (Fleet & Family Services): http://www.cnic.navy.mil/YOKOSUKA/index.htm . Fleet Ombudsman site: http://www.cnic.navy.mil/Yokosuka/FleetAndFamilyReadiness/SupportSe... . Minutes of FFSC meeting (very informative as to what is going on on base and in town): http://www.cnic.navy.mil/Yokosuka/Search/index.htm?Submit1.x=34&... . The paper for Yoko is off the main CFAY site. Also, the commander there gives briefings on You tube that can be helpful. Hope these help some.

How long will they be in Japan before they take the Cowpens back?  There are some fun things to see that aren't that far.  The big Buddha in Kamakura is quite impressive.  It's not that far from base.  He should also make sure he goes to the ramen place that's right outside the gates of the base.  I don't know the name but it has a red door.  Out the gate and hang a left.  It's just a few steps down.  I crave it right now.....

Hi Mary D, Is your son going to stay on the Antietam when they arrive in Japan or is he coming back with the Cowpens?

Donna2d - you are going to have THE BEST TIME EVER!!!!!!  I was there from 1-21 to 12-1.  It was THE most amazing trip I have ever taken in my life!!!!  We did not have prescription issues, but I did read about the need for special documentation for certain meds.  My mom and I both had meds with us for thyroid, but they were not an issue.  Never even questioned or mentioned.  They were in our carry-on bags.  So where are you planning to go?  We went to Hiroshima, Kyoto, Kamakura, Yokosuka;  In Tokyo we went to Shibuya to see the famous intersection.  We sat in Starbucks above the street and just watched for over half hour.  I loved it there.  We primarily traveled by train.  We did take the bullet train to Hiroshima.  It is expensive, but well worth it.  There is so much that we didn't see.  I would go back again in a second.

Oh - make sure you go to the ramen place by base - the one with the red door. Your sailor will probably know what I'm talking about.  Real, fresh ramen is amazing.  I would love a bowl right now.

Let me know if I can help with anything else.  You are going to love it!!!!!

Hey Girls:
Hubby and I leave for Japan in 8 days! I have a few questions if anyone has been there recently. I take prescribed narcotics for back problems & someone told me I need special papers to take them into Japan? Did anyone take meds or narcotic meds to Japan with them? Any special papers needed? Where did you pack meds? On carry on bags or checked bags? I'm really worried about this sincewe leave in 8 days. Please help!!!

Mike's Mom & davesmom, 've been wondering what would happen if the decide not to decommission. Either way, I suppose they stay with a home port of Yokosuka right?

Mike's Mom....I think they are still doing the hull swap, whether or not they decommission the Cowpens
