Welcome Haup 9. My son just recently reported to the USS Cowpens Nov. 4th. Graduation basic 9/28 and after a two week leave at home went to Yokosuka. He has been told they are reassigning him to the USS Antietam when the hull swap occurs.

Welcome Haup9! Most of the Cowpens sailors will be serving on the USS Antietam after the hull swap

Hi All,

New to the group. Our son will be reporting to the USS Cowpens by 14 January 2013. He recently graduated Engineman A school in Great Lakes. He just got his orders last week. Look forward to learning alot about the ship and Yokosuka. He is lucky, two friends of his from Boot Camp were assigned to the USS Blue Ridge and have been there for a few weeks now.

I read somewhere that the USS Cowpens was scheduled for decommissioning soon. Where will her sailors go?

Yes I did!!!!  It was surreal for sure.  We almost had trouble on our trip because of the curfew changes, but thankfully everything worked out ok.  I would go to Japan again in a second.  It was amazing.  If anyone is thinking about it - I say go for it.  Our sailors are good at getting around and communicating.  I never worried about a thing.

jenismer, Thanks for sharing your pictures and telling us about your trip. You got to tour the ship! That's very neat!! I hope I can go and see my son there someday.

On my way home today.  Tears started yesterday so for me that's pretty good.  This trip has been truly amazing.  The tour of the Cowpens was a real eye opener.  I have a new appreciation for our sailors for sure.  And with everything going on with the Navy in Japan right now...... I'm just thankful we were still able to do all we did. Tokyo Disney was absolutely amazing.  Definitely worth it.

Have a great day all!!!!!!!

Does anyone know if the USS Cowpens allows the sailors to have the navy rack packs?

Thanks, jenismer, for sharing your photo! It's beautiful there!! :-)

They were already here when we got here.  I would love to witness a ship pulling in though..  I am enjoying ever moment.  It's funny - even after not seeing him for 9 months, it's like no time has passed the second we're together.  This trip is truly amazing.  We saw the golden temple in Kyoto.  Absolutely breathtaking.  And the FOOD!!!!!!!!  Wow!
