That's wonderful, jenismer! Did you get to see the ship pull in? I know you will enjoy every moment with your sailor and seeing Japan!

Hey all!!!   Wow - Japan is truly beautiful.Visited base yesterday, but didn't make it to the ship yet.  We're going back one day this week.   The people here are wonderful.  Base was busy.  We decided against shopping at the Nex because of the Black Friday sales.  We were being warned the closer we got to stay away.  Had my first bowl of authentic ramen at a place right outside the base.  Delish!!!!!!!  Spent the day in Hiroshima today.  Truly amazing.  There just aren't words.

So that means the Antietam is going to home port in Yokosuka, Japan?

The Cowpens and the Antietam are doing a hull swap after the first of the year

Got a text from my son. Has only been in Yoko since Monday, hads't even gotten in the USS Cowpens yet, and was told yesterday that he's now going to the USS Antietam! Wow!! That was quick! Lol!!

Right, the next deployment will probably be next June.  Voxer wasn't the problem. That one is fine.  It was another free app that he had for texting.  He only used it with us so it was easy to change.  We just know now not to use it if he's deployed.  ;)

A PHONE CALL!!!!!!!!  SO happy for you!!!!!!  Sounds like they're keeping him busy  - which is good.  Sometimes I think it's easier on them because they know what they're doing - while we're here wondering.  Does that make sense?  I almost think it's better when they have some time on base without the ship being there.  My sailor spent barely a week on base, then was flown to Okinawa.  He got stuck there a few extra days because of a storm, then flown to the GW, and finally to the Cowpens.  He had quite an adventure.  When he got to the Cowpens he was thrown into everything.  Little stressful.  But he survived.  I think he would have preferred to wait for the ship.

Holler if you need anything - or just need another Navy mom shoulder ;)

1st phone call from Japan!!! My son called me this morning using the Viber app on his phone and free wifi at the USO while I was getting ready for work. He's thinking he will go ahead and buy a phone over there and is trying to decide which company to go with. I told him I had heard about Soft Bank and he said he heard that the other company was better, but you have to go off base and deal with the language barrier. Anyway, It was so good to hear his voice for the 1st time since he left for Japan on Sunday. He said that he and 19 others were used for practice at the hospital in a mass casualty exercise on base and then he and 7 others were taken off base and did more of the same at the hospital off base. He has volunteered to work a carnival this weekend. It's so good to hear him happy and making his own way in life! I miss him, but I'm loving him sharing awesome stories with me. I hope everyone had a wonderful day!

jenismer, What does that mean that he won't be deployed until next summer? Does that mean the ship will stay there at the base until then? Sorry I'm really new to all of this. Oh, and thanks for all the other info too. I have Voxer on my phone, but he doesn't. Since they are gone for long periods of time it may not be a good idea to use that one, huh? That poor little girl! Kinda funny now, but I bet it wasn't at the time.
