We are going to be there shortly after the ship gets back. My anxiety is starting to get the better of me, but when I remember that my sailor made the trip by himself..... I take a step back and calm down ;) I know I'll be fine once I get there. He has a long list of things he wants to do. I can't wait!!!!
Stephanie - he'll do all the indoc stuff first and learn how everything works. By the time the ship gets back he'll have all that stuff done. He won't have to worry about deployment until next summer. We use lots of different apps to stay in touch. One of my favorites is Voxer. It's like a walkie-talkie. You can send voice messages, texts and pictures. We use it quite a bit. He has a free text app, but we had an issue with that. Since he hadn't used it because they were deployed, they gave his number to someone else. Well..... the last message I sent to him didn't make it because they were leaving port. When the number was given to someone else, the message was delivered to her. A 9 year old girl. She was scared when she got a message "Who loves you pumpkin" I explained and apologized They understood but oh my.... I felt awful.
It is difficult to have them so far away. The holidays are difficult. We were lucky the year he was at Great Lakes. He was home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was awesome. We were really spoiled having him so close. But it gets easier. My sailor has been there for 17 months and has been home once.
Well, my son made it to Japan today and will soon be on the USS Cowpens! I think there are some classes they take when they first get there, and I'm not sure if the ship is even there right now or not, so I'm not sure when he will get to be on the ship. I haven't gotten to talk to him yet. Just got a FB inbox message letting me know that he tried using the Viber app on his phone over wifi when he arrived, but it didn't work. I'm so glad that I had work to keep me busy today and help keep my mind off of his moving so far away.
Have you made the trip?
I've started getting ready for my trip. It's getting close!!!!! I can hardly wait. He has all kinds of plans for us while we're there. My mom is going with me. Disney is a must, and a few districts in Tokyo. I'm nervous about the jet lag. Never experienced it before and I'm not as young as I used to be. Fingers crossed. =)
Talked with my sailor from Manila this morning. Last box I sent took close to 3 weeks to get to him. It usually takes 2 weeks to Yokosuka.
hi mary b will your sailor join them in Yokosuka when they return? My son has been on the Cowpens for almost a year now.
