I believe the Cowpens will meet the Antietam (CG 54) this fall or early next year and switch crews.  I'm not sure if that will happen in San Diego or elsewhere. The 'new' crew of the Cowpens will take it to Norfolk for Decommissioning, while the 'new' crew of the Antietam(Our sailors) returns to Yokosuka.

Sooooo...what do our guys do when the ship gets decomissioned next spring? I read that while looking up info on the ship since my SR should be going there soon. Here's a link: http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/messages/Documents/...

Have questions from my SR regarding ship life and communications home. PIR is 9/14. He will be on the Cowpens. If one or two have time to friend me, I'd love to ask questions from another mom.

Thinking about traveling to Yokosuka Japan to see our son who is deployed on the USS Cowpens. Has anyone traveled there before? If so, would you be willing to answer lots of questions? Where would be a good place to stay? We heard the Navy Lodge is almost always full. Anyways...thought this would be the best place to seek answers. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanx!!

thanks, Jenismer...my sailor is pretty good about communicating, so when I didn't receive an email for a while I was a little concerned.  He did say that they would be pretty busy.  Glad to hear they are back in Yoko...I wasn't sure.  You are fortunate that your sailor will skype...mine doesn't like to much.  Next week is his bday so hopefully he will skype w/us then.  Ya, that swim call must be quite an experience.

Just got off Skype with my sailor.  I'm lucky - we Skype often and e-mail lots.  He called when they were in Okinawa but the connection was really bad.  Just nice to hear his voice.  He was watching some jellyfish swim in a stream of light.  How random is that?

They got back to Yokosuka on Friday.  Back out in a couple weeks.  I LOVE all the pictures that have been posted from the ship during this deployment.  He said the swim call was crazy.  I can't imagine.

Got a short email today. Haven't gotten a phone call in quite some time though.
