Robin my son is an ET also!!!  Since he just got there the end of June he just got done crankin.  They are sending him to school the end of February through March. I  am hoping to get to Japan sometime soon.  I'm so thankful for Skype and other things so at least I can see his face.  That made a huge difference for all of us once he got there.  And when they flew him out to the ship he spent a few days in Okinawa and was able to have dinner with a friend from high school.  The world gets smaller and smaller doesn't it?

I don't know why I didn't think of reaching out to others on this site sooner.  It finally dawned on me that there are others feeling the same way I do.  Most don't understand the emotions that are present for military families.  I have friends with family in the military, but only 1 that had a member on a ship.  She's been a Godsend to me for sure.

I'm so glad to find this group. My son is on the Cowpens. He's coming up on 2 years in the Navy in March. He got to Japan last June and got flown out to meet the ship. What a journey this has been. I have the funny feeling that some of you share my emotions of having a child not only in the military but so far away from home. This is one thing no one can prepare you for .....

Hi Robin, sorry, I'm a little slow on the response. My daughter is a Gunners Mate, Vertical Launch Specialist. She plays with BIG guns and loves it! What does your sailor do?

my son will be leaving for Japan soon.  He just finished A school. So it could be 2 years before we see him again???
