1. ALL pillowcases (either from the mainland or from here island) need to be in
my possession by "Black Friday" 26 November 2010. NO exceptions. We will be
sewing the individual pillowcases together over that weekend, so, if they are
not to me by that date, they will not be added to the banner.

2. ALL pillowcases must be STANDARD SIZE! If the pillowcase is larger (like
queen or king sized) it will not be added to the banner. The measurements for a
STANDARD pillowcase is 20 in X 30 in.

3. ALL pillowcases must be done in landscape view (like it is on the bed) to
enable the "sew together" process to run more smoothly.

4. The designs or artwork need to be at least 1 inch away from the border (to
allow for the seam).

5. The color of the pillowcase does not matter. Designs can be painted, sewn,
hot glued or an iron-on transfer. If you are painting the design on, remember
to place something inside while painting, to avoid the paint going through to
the back.

6. Your pillowcase does not have to look like a piece of artwork, and can even
be done my your children, dogs, cats, turtles, etc... Your Sailor will love
anything you come up with!

7. If mailing a pillowcase from the mainland, please mail them to:

8. If you & your pillowcase are here on island, you can bring them to any FRG
meeting or function and / or can drop them off at my home any day. (With 4
teenageers, there is ALWAYS someone at home! LoL!)

9. There is a banner painting party at the Halsey Community Building on Friday,
08 October. You must supply your own pillowcases, paint, transparancies, ext.
Michelle Hastings & I both have overhead projectors, and we can assist with
helping put designs on the pillowcases as well as show you examples from
previous years.

10. ALL designs must be rated G! There will be many people seeing this banner,
including families, children, and Senior Leadership from all around the
waterfront. If there is a pillowcase that isn't rated G, it will be omitted
from the banner.

Sheila I think you were pretty clear. The problem with selling donuts on the ship is that everyone seems to be overly concerned with other people's weight. It also didn't help that it was before weigh in.

I did get an email last night, but no phone call. A friend that I was with got a call last night though.

I will post the information about the pillowcase up here, but if you want the address then I will message it to you since anyone could look at this page.

Can't imagine their berthing with no A/C...think last year some of them resorted to sleeping top side some.

Sam posted a picture of last years banner in her photos. I can not find a copy of the one I did 2 deployments ago as my computer crashed between then and now. I will search my memory cards for one. It is great to see your pillowcase in the banner. They can be simple of elaborate...it will just mean a lot to your sailor that he has one.

No word from our sailor this weekend. Sent him a newsy email so maybe that will prompt a reply.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

They said that since there is no A/C they have the email computers and everything that isn't really needed shut down.

The ship is very old, so it is normal for the email to go down every once in a while. I will see what I can find out today. I haven't gotten anything in a couple of days it seems like..

Sheila- If your hubby is a BM3 then my husband works with him I am sure. In fact I might have seen him before when I was selling things on the ship before they left. I probably made him buy a donut, lol...

Have had a couple of emails.....not a lot of info though. Some flight ops and some training that should be fun this weekend for the VBSS team, I don't know if anyone else has a sailor besides T is on that team or not guess that means some activity for everyone on the ship as well though. My last email was late Thursday night.

I posted it to my page, so you can see it on my profile.

The pillowcases are supposed to be sent to one of the ombudsman's house, and I can message anyone the address that does not already have it. They said that there was no limit to the pillowcases that someone can send in, but I can double check on that if you would like. It can be a lot of fun making them, and it is something nice for all of them to see when they come in. Especially if you are not able to actually make it to the homecoming!

The lack of pillowcases was something they mentioned at the meeting. They said that they have not gotten any yet. Also last year I think that one pillowcase might have gotten excluded because a girl decided to put a nude picture on the one for her sailor... The picture I posted of the banner just got approved if anyone wants some ideas! I also posted a news video that contains part of an interview my hubby gave. It also has their CO on there if anyone is curious, lol.
