Unfortunately the Navy is no different than the real world. Our sailor has had several things stolen since being aboard....cell phone, camera, ipod...two of which he recovered somehow!! It's sad that things like that happen on a small ship with people you are suppose to be able to trust with your life.

Hope Yankee's hand is doing better....guess the seas are getting a little calmer.

Keep up the chanting!!

Hear that our sailors are having very rough seas!!! "Fair Winds and Following Seas"
"Fair Winds and Following Seas" "Fair Winds and Following Seas" "Fair Winds and Following Seas" "Fair Winds and Following Seas" "Fair Winds and Following Seas" ......wonder if we chant that if it would help? Hope everyone is having a great week.

Georganna,

How is your son doing? I hope whatever is going on that he is doing better.

Our sailor is 24 years old, he just went in April 5, 2007 at the age of 22. Can't believe how fast the last 2 1/2 years has gone by. Whatever it is that they have to fill out for permission to re enlist has been approved for our sailor so it looks like he will be staying in...just as we suspected. He loves the Navy so we are happy for him. He will be on the Crommelin until at least July of 2011.

ESWS stands for Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. I don't totally understand all of it but know it is hard to pass those boards to get your ESWS pin.

We don't do the web cam thing. I am just thrilled with the phone calls we get and the occasional pictures that he sends by email. I would miss him way too much if we did the web cam.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

I think Yankee and Trevor had a great time making sure he called home!! Trevor called us early this morning as they were eating at some rooftop cafe looking out over the river...going to have wood fire baked pizza. He is ready to leave that port and head to the next one. Sea Trials went good. Another typhoon heading that direction though. Glad to know that they are all doing well and this deployment is 2/3 over.

What rate is he thinking about changing to? Everything is a slow process with the Navy. Our sailor just found out that it has been approved for him to stay on the Crommelin until 7/2011....hopefully we will be able to make it to Hawaii one more time before then, we'd like to meet Trevor there and go to one of the other islands for a week...we'll see.

We are in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and it is cold here just like Missouri.

Have a great Sunday everyone.

Thought I would share a picture our sailor emailed from his ESWS pinning.

Our sailor bought a phone that works overseas, he just buys a sims card at each port, I'm glad he did that. He is good at emailing but I can always tell a lot more by the sound of his voice.

I would much rather go to Hawaii than have our sailor come home but the budget won't allow that this year.

Cold and rainy in Missouri tonight.

Patti, My son is a BM3 and he spends some time around the bridge as well, so he may know your son as well.

The Crommelin is a great ship with many good sailors, of course we are not biased at all on here.

Shelia,
Thanks for sharing your wonderful letter. I agree our sons are serving with some great men!
I just sent a halloween box to our sailor to share with his buddies and have been thinking what I can do for them for Thanksgiving. So glad they will be home by Christmas. Our sailor will be taking the second leave period to come home, can't wait to hug him and hear the amazing storm stories!!

Welcome Patti. Send out a post soon as we look forward to getting to know you.

I've been getting phone calls every morning and one day we had 2 calls in the same day as well. Sounds like they are all having fun but I know my sailor is ready to get back out to sea! Freezing in Missouri this weekend!!! Hope everyone else is warm.

Shelia, Prayers from Missouri. It is hard on our sailors when they have friends at home going through hard times.
