Ummm... not exactly like a cruise ship! tehehehe You do get a wonderful look into your sailors life, eating in the galley, sleeping in a rack, seeing the wide open water!

A tiger cruise when the families of sailors aboard the ship get to cruise along with them. It is the final leg of the trip home. They usually port and off load some of the guys and gals and pick up their tigers. Then head for home... you must be sponsered by someone on the ship, pass a physical, be able to go along with the navy way of life, etc... guys sponser guys and gals must sponser gals.

Got it... I am one of the moms that is sending packages to the ship. We were hoping they would be coming into San Diego or somewhere else on the way home to pick up Tigers... Then we could meet them in person!

They will not have a tiger cruise at the end of the deployment as far as I know. They did a friends and family tiger cruise last july or august right before they went into dry dock....went from Pearl Harbor to Maui for a few days. Since the Crommelin does not have female berthing except for a few officers if they have an overnight tiger cruise it would be limited to males. Not at all fair to us Moms. I have not heard if they will have a short cruise of some kind when they return after this deployment of not.

I guess I am lucky!! We hear from Trevor quite a bit by email ( when they are not in River City) and he calls when he gets a chance. It is always good to hear his voice no matter what time day or night. He does not write letters anymore, only when at RTC, but we did get a package from Thailand with beautiful robes he had bought for us.

The ship should be home for christmas. Last deployment their half way point was Mayport, FL...of course we had to make a long weekend trip there. San Diego was their last port stop before returning to Hawaii last time. I don't think they will be making a port stop in San Diego this time.

here are some items I have sent in packages to Trevor:

Sports and Fitness magazines
DVD Movies and TV Series
CD
Beef Jerkey
Single serve cups of mac & cheese
fruit cups or small cans or fruit
trail mix
powder drink mixes
raviloi
pictures of our recent family outings or things like the first snow of the season
local newspaper clippings

I always put any food type items in a zip loc bag in case it would come open for some reason....one time I sent several packages of Carnation Instant Breakfast and one opened somehow and made a mess with white powder all over the box....bet that box was inspected and tested!!!

I know most of the guys share their boxes of goodies, when Trevor gets one guys in his division want to know what his mom sent them.....it's hard to believe that some guys never get packages or any type of mail.

I think that is a Navy wide phrase, I have read it in relation to carriers as well...they need to give us a cheat sheet of all of the navy slang so we know what they are talking about.

River City...I can't believe that the Crommelin uses that phrase too!!!
