Thanks for the info.  The problem is getting the time off of my job.  But I did let my boss know very clearly that I WILL be taking time off for my son and I will be asking for an extended period until I find out.  Jeff came home for the first leave last year. Does anyone know the dates of the second leave?    I will definitely tell him to keep records.  I can just hear him now...oh mom I have no space for anything else.   :)

Lauren- will be praying big time that you get to spend time with your son.

Nice trip in Hawaii would be my vote!  My son left the Crommelin in July and still is dealing with them on messed up leave days on his record.  Fulltime job for our sailors just keeping on people to keep their records straight!  Let your sailors know to keep copies of everything in case it does not get input in their file.

Well I am glad to hear that it is not just my son having issues with leave.  I encouraged him to ask for his holiday leave early so that we could at least bring him home.  If not I guess I'll have a nice vacation at home from work...or maybe a nice trip to Hawaii.  :)

Lauren-sorry about the mix up.  I am new to all of this blogging stuff.   I am a PACU nurse. Have been for about 11 years now.  Used to switch jobs every 2 years until I settled in here and now am getting antsy again.   Have to look at what is next.   Even looked at jobs on the Navy Base in Great Lakes since it isn't too far.

I must say that all the ships must have issues. However yes  I'm sure I heard some of the same.  I continue to encourage my son to get through the rest of his tour and when it gets closer he can make his decisions...but never make them when he is upset.  He vasilates between resigning and wanting to get out now.   For now this has worked.  But that is what us Navy moms are for!!! :)

Yankee's mom- No doubt permanent getaway. Isn't that the best way to visit though is with native islanders.  You get to see and do things that normal tourists do not and hopefully with future family!!!  :)   I will definitely have to make sure I get there while my son is stationed. Besides it is looking like a better idea every day since we have had this cold rainy weather.  Yuck.

Lauren- wow reenlisted. that is great.  Nice commitment from your sailor.  Tell him thanks.  As a nurse I get to take care of all different branches of military men, and I am so thankful for everything they given for our country.

Thanks to all for allowing me to be a part of this great group of mom's.  :)

Lauren - you will not regret renting the house on the beach!!!!  I hope you have a wonderful visit with your sailor, you will love seeing Hawaii with him.  Be sure to go to the Arizona Memorial with your sailor, it is very humbling!  The Missouri is great as well.  Our sailor reenlisted on the USS Missouri, Pam shared that exciting moment with us.  Great Navy Mom memories!

Pam - Lucky you!  Permanent vacation getaway!   We will probably go next fall when the USS Michael Murphy is due to pull in.  Saving my change already!

Lauren I am envious  Have a great time visiting with your son and enjoying the sites.  Yeah I am not sure why but I don't think my son has worked much with his position either.  Right now he is doing something with quality.  :)

Debbie, thanks for the book reference.  I will definitely get this.

Zip Code is correct!

Pam-  is Yankee going to end up staying in Hawaii?  T is in San Diego and adjusting quite well.  He can't wait to get back to Hawaii next year.

kcrowder- my son was on the Crommelin for 4 years, just recently left for the USS Michael Murphy.  Don't miss the opportunity to visit Hawaii while you son is there...so much to see and do!  The Navy Lodge is a good place to stay, your son can also get a cabin at Bellows Air Force Base....the beach is fantastic there.  I bought the book "Oahu Revealed before we took our first trip....good investment.
