Hi all I just joined this group. My son is currently serving on the Denver in Japan. Per the Denver fb page, the official decom ceremony is scheduled for August 14 in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. They are offering ship tours around that date. I'm struggling about going. The sailors cat take time off but "should" have some free time in the eve and maybe weekends depending on workload. I'm struggling about going. Would be coming from Baltimore MD. Is anyone considering going?l
So has anyone heard what the impact is on their Sailors with the Denver set to decommission??
Hi USS Denver moms. I have a son that left for the USS Denver almost 2 weeks ago. Other than a quick phone call to let us know he arrived safely we've been communicating through facebook or skype. He was in Great Lakes, Illinois prior to that. He is currently undesignated. So far he hasn't been able to get out and explore the area yet. I miss him, but so excited for him to get to see Japan. His dad and I are hoping to make it there to see him. How far in advance do they know if the ship is in port or at sea?
Looking forward to sharing stories and supporting each other through this site.
OK, looks like orders are in and there will be C school before headed to the Denver. A whole for me to learn but a few more months in the US..I'll take it
Between govt shutdown and whatever.....still waiting for final orders...all we heard was now heading to C school before heading to the Denver...so now we are back in waiting mode...lol uugghhh
Ok new navy moms I might be able to help out some. My son left for Japan in June and e took very little with him. So do not worry about packing a lot. Get use to sending care packages from the post office because if you send it from anywhere else they will tell you they can not send it and there is a form to fill out with the package so you are aware for customs. My son and I keep in contact a lot by facebook messages back and forth daily. He can at least have access that the most. When on land they can get Wi-Fi so they can facetime or call out through other sources and they will message u on how. As the other moms have posted there is a lot o pictures and updates on facebook. So far the ship has been t several different areas besides Japan just to keep you aware they go to sea a lot. Yes it is suppose to decommisoned next year in Hawaii as of the last update.
Hi all,I am new to this so please bare with me.. My son leaves for his 1st deployment in a couple of days to Japan for 3 years... As a mother I am struggling with all sorts of emotions, worry being the biggest one... LOL...How did you guys deal with it? I know he will be fine and the Navy will take good care of him, but he is going to be in a foreign country and soooo far away from home... Also does anyone have any suggestions as to what to pack that they dont have access to in Japan?
Hi everyone, brand new here....My Sailor just got his orders and is headed to the Denver in a couple weeks. Any ideas since its being decommissioned 9/14 where these Sailors go comes then?
My son is on the USS Denver too. I am so happy they have been posting photos on facebook. make the time go by faster,
Well I guess we are in Australia now at least that is what my son has texted me. He has been on this ship since June, but I never could remember which one until I recently I to start shipping care packages.
